PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

Location: Johannesburg, South Africa
Industry: Healthcare / Medical Devices / Capital Equipment

A leading healthcare organisation is seeking an experienced Product & Business Development Manager to drive commercial growth, product strategy, and market development across specialised medical device portfolios.

This role is ideal for a commercially driven professional with strong healthcare industry knowledge, product management expertise, and the ability to support strategic growth within a highly specialised environment.

THE ROLE

You will be responsible for driving product strategy, market expansion, and commercial enablement across a portfolio of medical technology solutions.

Key responsibilities include:

Product Management & Lifecycle Strategy


  • Managing the full product lifecycle from introduction through to phase-out

  • Driving product positioning, pricing strategies, and value propositions

  • Supporting forecasting, demand planning, and portfolio optimisation

  • Aligning local market requirements with broader product strategy initiatives

Market Analysis & Business Development


  • Conducting market research, segmentation, and competitor analysis

  • Identifying new business opportunities and growth areas within the portfolio

  • Monitoring market trends, pricing, and competitor positioning

  • Developing business cases for new products and commercial opportunities

Marketing Strategy & Commercial Enablement


  • Developing and implementing marketing plans aligned to business objectives

  • Driving product awareness campaigns, promotions, and educational initiatives

  • Supporting congresses, workshops, and healthcare industry events

  • Collaborating closely with sales teams to support commercial execution

Sales Support & Product Training


  • Providing product training, technical support, and sales enablement tools

  • Supporting key customer engagements and strategic accounts

  • Ensuring sales teams are equipped to position products effectively

  • Assisting with customer presentations, demonstrations, and solution discussions

Product Launches & Innovation


  • Leading and coordinating new product launches and roll-outs

  • Supporting market adoption of new technologies and solutions

  • Collaborating with global and cross-functional teams on innovation initiatives

  • Driving successful market entry and product uptake strategies

Customer & Stakeholder Engagement


  • Building relationships with healthcare professionals, institutions, and industry stakeholders

  • Supporting clinical education and training initiatives

  • Engaging with key opinion leaders and relevant industry societies

  • Strengthening product positioning and market credibility through stakeholder engagement

Operational & Compliance Responsibilities


  • Supporting tender processes with product and market input

  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory, quality, and company standards

  • Maintaining accurate reporting, forecasting, and product data management

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Key requirements:


  • Degree in Medical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Marketing, Business, or related field

  • Minimum 5–8 years' experience in:

    • Medical devices

    • Healthcare marketing

    • Product management

  • Strong experience in product lifecycle management and marketing strategy

  • Experience supporting sales teams and commercial execution

  • Strong understanding of healthcare systems and procurement environments

  • Experience with market analysis, customer insights, and competitor intelligence

Advantageous:


  • Postgraduate qualification in Business Management, Marketing, or MBA

  • Clinical background

  • Experience within:

    • Endoscopy

    • Infection prevention

    • Capital equipment environments

  • Valid driver's licence

  • Willingness to travel nationally
