Job Description

The Electrical Distribution Systems Design and Release (D&R) Engineer is responsible for the design, development, validation, and release of the wiring harnesses under their responsibility. The EDS D&R is also responsible for design improvements that lead to quality increase, cost and weight optimizations.

  1. Comply with GPDS deliverables UNVx, UPVx, FDJ, TDJ, PEC, FEC and Launch Phases

  2. Design wiring harnesses complying with program cost, weight, quality, performance, and timing targets.

  3. Complies with Robustness Engineering Disciplines (Quality history, P-Diagram, FMEA, etc.) ensuring compliance to requirements and specifications.

  4. Ensures design (SDS, Design Guides), test (procedures) and development mechanisms are adhered to.

  5. Knowledge and application of six sigma, problem solving skills using 3L5W, 8D, Is-Is Not

  6. Leads Technical Design Reviews (TDRs)

  7. Release parts in FEDEBOM and WERS through the product life cycle. Support the Change Control Meeting.

  8. Audit and update BOM (Bill of Material) with correct part levels and usage, for prototype builds and maintain it post Job 1.

  9. Identify validation, durability and functional test required as per requirements and specifications. (DVP / FEDE DVP dashboard)

  10. Issue resolution in Digital and Build Phases of Product Development.

  11. Analyze and break down Program Direction Letter and Trim Spiders to account for EDS.

  12. Generate proposals to minimize giveaway cost and reduce total part count.

  13. Generate design optimization proposals utilizing benchmarking.

  14. Develop and maintain the build level complexity charts.

  15. Perform Harness Complexity Analysis.

  16. Perform engineering cost estimates.

  17. Define and verify engineering prototypes requirements at part level.

  18. Parts implementation/Sign-off in manufacturing and assembly plants assisting quality issue resolution in all milestones.

  19. Basic knowledge of supply chain processes and concepts

  20. knowledge of PPAP, APQQ and Open to Go Metrics

  21. Knowledge of Launch Quality Operating System

  22. Knowledge and understanding of AIMS, Jira, etc.

  23. Support prototype and production build events for forward model programs.

  24. Support quality and manufacturing quality forums s required.

  25. Submit invention disclosures, process improvements and best practices.

  26. Comply with training as outlined in calendar year objectives.

  • Engineering Degree (electrical desirable) or related disciplines.

  • Strong English Proficiency (written, read, and oral).

  • Basic 3D CAD and Teamcenter tool knowledge

  • Microsoft Office Usage (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio).

  • Time and Project Management.

  • Ford GPDS.

  • Understanding of feature partitioning.

  • Understanding of automotive systems.
