ABOUT US:

Design made simple for the modern home. Our passion lies in furniture and design, and it is the fuel that drives our business. We are a family-run company and aim to maintain this as we continue to rapidly grow. We’re entrepreneurial. We challenge the status quo, aren’t afraid to try new ideas, and we leverage our agile structure to make smart decisions and find new opportunities.

We’re a people-first company and what we do wouldn’t be possible without our customers. For this reason, we like to say that our collections are always customer curated. Join our flexible work culture and team of creative and passionate individuals.

Our team is Design Forward, Always: bringing beautifully made furniture to the modern home.

Reporting directly to the Manager, Product Development and Sourcing, the Product Developer will lead new product introductions from concept through production. Bringing strong design and CAD expertise, commercial awareness, and a proven ability to meet development milestones, you’ll work closely with internal teams and manufacturing partners to bring new products to market.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate on annual product design and development planning.
  • Manage development calendars for assigned categories, ensuring samples, costings, and approvals are completed on schedule.
  • Lead new product introductions across all categories, from initial concept and design through production.
  • Create and refine CAD drawings, 3D models, specification sheets, and technical packages, providing clear construction and dimensional guidance to manufacturers.
  • Negotiate initial product costs and identify value engineering opportunities to achieve competitive wholesale pricing and maintain target gross margins.
  • Collaborate with Quality Control and manufacturing partners to review samples and ensure products meet design and quality standards.
  • Maintain proactive communication with internal teams and external partners to keep product development and sampling on track.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in the Seasonal Development Tracker.
  • Leverage AI and digital tools to improve research, reporting, documentation, and daily workflows.
  • Support and guide Product Development Coordinator, sharing best practices and helping the team achieve departmental objectives.
  • Partner with Key Accounts to identify and develop private label opportunities.
  • Contribute to forecasting, data analysis, and creative sharing sessions.
  • Participate in international factory visits with the Product Development team, with approximately 30% travel required.
  • Some evening calls are required to accommodate multiple time zones.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-5+ years of product development experience in furniture, home furnishings, or a related consumer product category, ideally working with overseas manufacturers. Relevant categories include lighting, home décor, textiles, outdoor products, cabinetry, millwork, and consumer goods.
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Visual Design, Merchandising, International Business, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in CAD and 3D design software, Adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop. A portfolio demonstrating relevant work is required.
  • Experience developing technical packages and specification sheets and managing multiple sampling rounds with manufacturers.
  • Strong understanding of materials, finishes, and manufacturing processes, including wood, metal, stone, glass, and textiles.
  • Demonstrated costing, value engineering, and negotiation skills, with an understanding of wholesale pricing and gross margins.
  • Proven ability to manage product development timelines and consistently deliver against key milestones.
  • Experience identifying and implementing process improvements, with examples of initiatives you have led.
  • Familiarity with AI tools such as Claude and ChatGPT, and an interest in using technology to improve efficiency and workflows.
  • Strong commercial awareness, including the ability to identify assortment gaps, pricing opportunities, and sales trends.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience building and maintaining vendor relationships across cultures and time zones.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

Nice to Have:

  • Knowledge of furniture construction, including case goods, upholstery, or outdoor furniture.
  • Specialized knowledge of textiles and leathers.
  • Experience developing private label programs for key accounts.

Don't have furniture experience? If you've developed products in a related category and are excited to learn about furniture construction, we'd love to hear from you.

WHAT WE OFFER:

  • Competitive salary plus bonus.
  • Comprehensive benefits plan (health, dental, vision) with enhanced coverage for mental health resources.
  • Three weeks of vacation in your first year.
  • Hybrid work environment.
  • Casual and open office with views of downtown Vancouver and the North Shore mountains.
  • Stocked kitchen with snacks, fresh fruit, coffee, and tea.
  • Ergonomic workstations with sit-stand desks.
  • Free electric vehicle charging at our head office.
  • Generous product discounts for yourself, friends, and family.
  • Professional development opportunities.
  • Office gym and free weekly spin classes at Ride Cycle Club (locations in Vancouver, Calgary, and Toronto).

The salary range for this role is currently budgeted at $70,000 - $85,000 plus bonus. Final offer will be based on experience.

We appreciate hearing from all candidates; however, only those under consideration will be contacted. Moe’s is proud to be an equal opportunity employer committed to inclusive hiring practices.
