Product Design Engineer

📍 Highland, NY🕒 Full-time | Excellent Benefits

Selux is seeking an experienced Product Design Engineer to work closely with the Engineering team, Product Management, Manufacturing and Sales todesign and develop new and esisting product lines, with a strong focus on Design for Manufacturing to ensure products are cost-effective, efficient to produce, and maintain high quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Project engineering of new product developments to include:
    • Maintaining project timelines and schedules
    • Coordinate review meetings with Engineering, Product Management, Manufacturing and Sales
    • Electronic vaulting of all documentation
  • Develop product designs with DFM principles as a priority to optimize manufacturability, assembly efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Creation of complete manufacturing packages to include:
    • Detailed drawings suitable for production
    • Material specifications optimized for manufacturing and sourcing
    • Bills of Materials (BOMs) reflecting cost-efficient, manufacturable components
  • Coordinate prototypes and support manufacturing on preproduction runs, ensuring designs are practical to product at scale
  • Supply accurate product information for specification sheets
  • Evaluate and source new components and suppliers with manufacturability and scalability in mind.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing to identify opportunities for process improvements and simplification

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent relevant work experience
  • Demonstrated manufacturing experience and a strong understanding of DFM principles required
  • Lighting industry experience preferred

Job Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude for building and evaluating prototypes
  • Understanding of thermal transfer principles
  • Knowledge of and experience in designing architectural lighting
  • Proficient with 3D modeling software (Solid Works preferred) and Microsoft Office
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing principles and processes
  • Knowledge of industry standards (UL, NEC)
  • Ability to balance design innovation with manufacturability and cost efficiency.
  • Knowledge of standard lighting industry sensors and controllers
  • Knowledge of Solar lighting controllers and lighting systems

The Council of Industry has been the Hudson Valley's manufacturer’s association since 1910. We are a privately funded, not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting our member firms.
