About the role

As the Product Compliance Engineer (Passenger Car) in BYD Europe, you will be responsible for overseeing the compliance efforts of our passenger car products in the EU region. You will drive the implementation of automotive product compliance requirements across the EU and key European markets, take full ownership of the European carbon credits compliance project, ensure full lifecycle compliance of the company’s launched and on-sale products with local regulatory standards, manage compliance risks, and support the stable and compliant operation of the company’s European market business.

Key Responsibilities

1) Local Implementation of European Product Compliance

Responsible for the rollout and execution of automotive product compliance regulations in the EU, EEA and the Netherlands, covering core compliance domains including Whole Vehicle Type Approval (WVTA/EWVTA), UNECE technical regulations, EU General Safety Regulation (GSR), REACH, RoHS, End-of-Life Vehicles (ELV) Directive and Sustainable Products Regulation.

Oversee local product certification and compliance filing processes in Europe, coordinate with local certification bodies and regulatory authorities, track full-cycle certification progress, resolve technical and compliance issues, and ensure BYD products obtain compliant qualifications on schedule to meet market launch requirements.

Maintain European regional product compliance certificates, technical documentation and compliance ledgers to ensure complete and traceable records; lead responses to compliance inspections, market surveillance and audits by local regulators, and drive the implementation of rectification requirements.

2) European Carbon Credits Project

Take full charge of the end-to-end management of the European carbon credits compliance program. Continuously track revisions to EU and national-level CO₂ emission regulations for passenger vehicles/commercial vehicles and carbon credit trading rules, deliver regulatory impact analysis and response strategies, and provide professional support for corporate decision-making

Oversee carbon credit accounting and management for the company’s European sales fleet: responsible for carbon emission data collection, fleet average CO₂ emission calculation, annual compliance target breakdown, forecast of credit surplus/deficit, and formulation of carbon credit trading

Responsible for official declaration, data submission and compliance reporting related to carbon credits, liaise with competent authorities and third-party verification bodies to ensure the authenticity, accuracy and compliance of declared data; deliver regular progress reports on the carbon credits program

3) Regulatory Research and Compliance System Building

Continuously monitor updates to product compliance, low-carbon and environmental regulations and policies in the EU, conduct regulatory impact assessments, promptly update headquarters and develop localized implementation plans.

Participate in the establishment and optimization of the European regional product compliance management system, processes and operational standards, compile compliance guideline documents, and deliver compliance training and promotion to local and cross-departmental headquarters teams.

Your Profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Engineering degree in Automotive, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or relevant field.
• Min 5 years of experience in automotive product compliance or relevant fields.
• Excellent oral / written English communication skills, Chinese or other European language capabilities will be a plus.
• Familiar with European and national compliance requirements related to new energy vehicles (incl. PHEV), such as legislation, safety, environmental requirements and industry practices while launching a new product.
• Experience working with regulatory authorities, local authorities, unions or associations, and third-party testing organizations.
• Familiar with whole vehicle and subsystems technologies.
• Passionate about NEV and creating a sustainable future.
• Disciplined, fact-based, and rational approach to problem-solving.
• Ability to prioritize, multitask, and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Team player with a customer-centric, can-do, live-and-learn mindset.
• Valid driving license B or equivalent driving license for passenger cars.
