Job Description

We’re looking for a fantastic, high-agency problem solver that is comfortable straddling the line between product and implementation.

Turing Labs is transforming product and R&D innovation across the Consumer Packaged Goods space and beyond. Our founders started Turing after seeing how 90% of CPG innovations fail due to slow, manual R&D cycles—we’re here to fix that with math. Leveraging our own bespoke Machine Learning tools, modern LLMs, and traditional software and data models, we’re building product experiences that users are able to leverage and trust while they invent the products of tomorrow. You’ll work directly with the founder, food science domain experts, ex-math professors, and our customers to define and build our platform.

If you think you’d be a good fit but don’t necessarily meet the profile below, **reach out and tell us why!**

What you'll do:

  • Engage deeply with real-world problems and own the complete lifecycle of creating novel, differentiating solutions
    • E.g. build a new way for a chemist to express their expert knowledge into our optimization tool; communicate uncertain insights to a food scientist; build an agentic tool to facilitate communication between marketing and R&D
  • Cut across dimensions and identify actual problems - not just complaints - blocking our customers from achieving their goals.
  • Collaborate with the team to ideate, prototype, and deliver solutions to these problems that nobody else can.
  • Leverage our AI-assisted tooling and workflows to iterate quickly and deliver real production code.
  • Within 15 days: own identification of a small problem our users face today; Within 30 days: invent and deliver something that you created based on your conversations with our users, internal experts, etc; Within 45 days: improve our internal product processes and tooling to help the whole team deliver better results, faster.

A good fit likely has:

  • An aptitude for problem solving and learning. We don’t care exactly what you’ve done before, we care that you can go all-in and accomplish anything you set your mind to.
  • An incredible ability to go deeper than the first layer to identify the core of the problem and suggest non-obvious solutions.
  • 5+ years of experience “building” things that people actually use!
  • Comfort integrating solutions at the edge of your knowledge: these solutions rely on machine learning, domain expertise, etc that no one person has all of.
  • Proven high-ownership mindset: ability to work independently and be self-motivated, e.g. former founders or those that took extreme ownership in previous roles.
  • Excellent communication and candor. You’ll be directly communicating with customers, users, engineers, domain experts, etc.

It’s a bonus if you have:

  • Experience or education in Machine Learning and AI.
  • Experience or education in scientific computing, machine learning, data visualization and analytics, domain-specific tools, or similar.
  • UX experience. You’ll be building things non-technical users touch, use, and rely on every day.

About us:

  • We are backed by $19.75M in funding from Y Combinator, Insight Partners, and elite angels like Eric Ries.
  • Our core platform can’t be killed by the next release of ChatGPT.
  • We are a small, elite team that is breaking new ground in how engineering work can be done and how problems can be solved.
  • We operate with a high agency, high-speed culture: we trust you, we want you to build great things fast.

This position is in person in Palo Alto, CA.

Interview Process

Step 1 - 30 minute phone screen to confirm fit. We are looking for people with strong ownership mentality and problem-solving skillsets, and want to know how you’ve demonstrated that.

Step 2 - 75 minute problem-solving interview. Use any tools you want. We will adapt topic based on in-person vs virtual. This interview will be split equally between problem identification skills and building a solution to small hypothetical scenario.

Step 3 - Meet anyone you haven’t met yet! We’re a small team and want to make sure we all get along.
