We are seeking an experienced Producibility Manufacturing Expert to join our team and serve as a critical link between design engineering and manufacturing operations. This role will ensure our products are designed and developed for optimal manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and quality while meeting all technical and operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Design for Manufacturability (DFM)

  • Conduct comprehensive producibility assessments of product designs during all phases of development
  • Collaborate with design engineers to optimize designs for manufacturing efficiency, cost reduction, and quality improvement
  • Identify and resolve potential manufacturing challenges before they impact production schedules or costs
  • Provide detailed feedback on material selection, tolerances, assembly methods, and process capabilities

Manufacturing Process Development & Optimization

  • Develop, document, and implement manufacturing processes, procedures, and work instructions
  • Analyze existing manufacturing processes and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Recommend and implement tooling, fixtures, equipment, and facility modifications to enhance productivity
  • Establish manufacturing process parameters and ensure process repeatability and control

Cost & Quality Management

  • Perform cost analyses and identify opportunities for cost reduction without compromising quality or performance
  • Work with suppliers and vendors to assess manufacturing capabilities and ensure requirements can be met
  • Support make-vs-buy decisions with technical manufacturing expertise
  • Develop inspection criteria and work with Quality Assurance to establish acceptance standards

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as the manufacturing subject matter expert in design reviews and product development meetings
  • Partner with engineering, quality, supply chain, and production teams to ensure seamless product transitions
  • Communicate manufacturing constraints, capabilities, and limitations to stakeholders
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) activities from concept through production ramp-up

Risk Management & Problem Solving

  • Identify and assess manufacturing risks for new and existing products
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action efforts for manufacturing-related issues
  • Develop mitigation strategies for production challenges and technical risks
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives using lean manufacturing principles

Documentation & Compliance

  • Create and maintain manufacturing plans, process documentation, and technical reports
  • Ensure manufacturing processes comply with applicable standards, specifications, and regulatory requirements
  • Support configuration management activities related to manufacturing processes

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related technical field

Experience

  • Minimum 7-10 years of hands-on manufacturing engineering experience
  • Proven track record in producibility analysis and design for manufacturability
  • Experience with manufacturing processes such as machining, sheet metal fabrication, composites, welding, assembly, and/or other relevant processes
  • Experience supporting new product development and production ramp-up activities
  • Must be a US Citizen and have a STAR ID

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, capabilities, and limitations
  • Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., CATIA, NX, SolidWorks, or similar)
  • Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies
  • Understanding of materials science and manufacturing material properties

Soft Skills

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong communication skills with ability to influence cross-functional teams
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Team player with collaborative mindset

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Engineering or related field
  • Professional certifications (e.g., Certified Manufacturing Engineer, Six Sigma Black Belt)
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, automotive, or other highly regulated industries
  • Familiarity with industry standards and specifications (e.g., AS9100, ISO 9001, NASA standards)
  • Experience with manufacturing simulation software and digital manufacturing tools
  • Knowledge of supply chain management and procurement processes
  • Experience mentoring or leading technical teams

Essential Functions

Work Environment:

Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (5%). Requires ability to work at a computer for long periods of time (100%).

Physical Requirements:

Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities (10%).

Equipment and Machines:

Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).

Attendance:

Normal workday 7:30-4:30, Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity, and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

Other Essential Functions:

The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
