CBC Morning Live is looking for an innovative journalist and programmer to create content for live and on-demand audiences, as Producer of Host Content. This is a great opportunity to contribute to CBC News Network, Canada’s top breaking news channel and livestream, and reach new audiences with our world-class content.
In this role, you will work closely with the host of CBC Morning Live on daily and longer-term projects. Working with the senior producer and other program leaders, you identify, develop and produce daily responsive video segments that run within live programming, while ensuring they’re optimized for people to watch on-demand on mobile. You may also produce versions for other platforms, such as text-based digital and audio.
You are deeply versed in a range of news stories, from the trade war to Céline Dion’s return, with a proven ability to create creative treatments that meet audience needs. As such, you produce daily video explainers, breaking down an angle of the top story. You also work on original reporting and newsmaking interviews, often under tight deadlines. You also support breaking news coverage and special programming, including when the program is hosted from the field.
You have experience writing for broadcast and working with video - from gathering to editing. You know your way around a control room and how a program is crafted. You can also spot opportunities to expand the reach of our journalism to new viewers - always advocating for the audience and how we can address their needs on any given story. You thrive in breaking news and are a fountain of ideas of how to treat it. You thrive in a high-stress, tight-deadline environment and are able to work flexible hours and on weekends, if needed.
The ideal candidate will hit the ground running because of their familiarity with key production tools. Experience on a national news team is crucial and experience working with digital and/or social content is a strong asset.
You will play a leadership role within the team, working closely with colleagues to pitch, produce and focus newsmaking interviews. You will also liaise with other CBC News platforms to plan the rollout of host content and identify coverage opportunities. You live and promote the values of an inclusive and respectful work culture, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
This one-year role is based in Toronto and requires full-time, on-site attendance.
Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
We thank all applicants for their interest, but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
As part of our recruitment process, candidates who advance to the next
step will be asked to complete a background check. This includes:
