Produce Stocker (substitute)

Varied Hours – “All avail nights, days, weekends”

Purpose To build and maintain attractive displays of fresh produce and to provide prompt, friendly, and courteous customer service to help meet department goals for sales, margins, labor, and customer service.

Reports to Produce Manager

Pay Level 1

Job Responsibilities

Customer Service

  • Assist customers with product questions, in a prompt, friendly, courteous manner, referring them to other staff members when necessary.
  • Offer samples and suggestions for purchases and ways to prepare products.
  • Help customers with special orders.

Stocking

  • Replenish and rotate displays, culling several times daily, and following stocking priorities set by Produce Manager. Notify Produce Buyer and/or Produce Manager of out-of-stocks.
  • Pull damaged or spoiled goods promptly, following appropriate procedures for disposals and notification to the Produce Manager.
  • Label items accurately with PLC sticker and/or signs. Report pricing discrepancies to Produce Manager and/or Scanning Coordinator.
  • Inventory back stock for assigned sections(s) and notify Produce Manager of inventory replenishment needs based on established guidelines.
  • Assure accuracy of all signage in assigned sections(s).
  • Be responsible for safety in the workplace by creating a safe work environment, reporting safety concerns to a manager or member of the Safety Committee, and adhering to safety rules and regulations.
  • Follow department policies and procedures.

Receiving

  • Check deliveries to verify piece counts, damage and quality, notify Produce Buyer and/or Produce Manager of discrepancies and/or problems.
  • Help with unloading as needed and rotate back stock.

Department Maintenance

  • Remove trash, clean cases and mirrors, and maintain retail, prep, and storage areas in clean, orderly condition throughout shift.
  • Monitor cooler and walk-in temperatures, follow established procedures for breakdowns.
  • Use equipment safely.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Retail produce experience helpful.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. continuously.
  • Ability to work in a cold environment.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Familiarity with organic produce helpful.
  • Manuel dexterity with hazardous equipment.
  • Ability to follow all safety policies and procedures of Hunger Mountain Co-op.
  • Ability to provide excellent service to customers, vendors and coworkers.
  • Ability to work well with others in a cooperative environment where teamwork and constant communication are essential.
  • Ability to be physically present onsite at the Co-op to perform the requirements of this position.
