Responsibilities:
As a Produce Manager at Gelson’s, you will be responsible for overseeing the purchasing, inventory, and presentation of the Produce Department. Responsible for ensuring that proper level of stock is maintained, and that product placement is optimal for maximizing product profitability. This position generally has one or more direct reports.
Essential Duties:
- Supervise Produce Department staff to ensure productivity and excellent customer service; ensure all necessary training courses are completed.
- Develop weekly schedule of Produce Department staff; manage hours to ensure maximum profitability while maintaining quality service.
- Comply with and implement safety policies and procedures, store rules and company policies and all applicable local, state and federal regulations.
- Monitor sales volume, inspect store inventory levels and maintain in-store promotional materials during promotional periods; order produce based on sales trends and inventory stock.
- Track and analyze produce sales trends; utilize information to develop sales projections and develop reports for management as required.
- Control produce merchandising to maximize product movement, consumer demand and profitability; control stock levels based on seasonal forecasts.
- Monitor inventory for spoilage and ensure proper rotation of merchandise in accordance with store policy and to ensure exceptional presentation of fresh quality produce.
- Ensure that produce is adequately stocked and faced at all times according to tag allocation or department standards; ensure cleanliness in department is regularly maintained.
- Ensure that the department is in compliance with OSHA and Health Department standards.
- Verify accurate recordkeeping of all shift hours worked on Kronos system.
- Respond appropriately in all customer interactions, providing excellent customer service through attentive listening and resourceful assistance; assist customers with products they may have difficulty handling; provide samples to customers.
- Receive and unload produce orders; verify that vendor invoices match actual item and quantities received and log results.
- Assist with Clerk duties as needed to maintain department.
- Other related duties and assignments as required.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Some college strongly preferred.
- Three (3) years’ experience in produce department operations.
- Completion or participation in a management training program.
- Retail and/or supermarket field experience required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Highly effective organizational and time management skills.
Physical requirements:
- Continuous hand manipulation including, grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation
- Reaching above and at shoulder level
- Standing, walking, bending up to 8 hours per day
- Walking on uneven surfaces
- Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
- Driving moving equipment (Forklift / Power jack)
- Working near hazardous equipment (Baler, trash compactor, produce knives)
- Exposure to dust, gas, fumes (Receiving dock)
- Exposure to extremes in temperature (Coolers)
