Job Description

Our client is an established company specialising in mechanical and electrical projects and building services. They are looking for an experienced Procurement Officer to support their projects by ensuring the timely and cost-effective sourcing of materials, equipment, tools, and services.

Position Summary

The Procurement Officer will manage the purchasing process from sourcing and negotiating with suppliers through to delivery. The role requires strong commercial awareness, technical understanding of electrical and mechanical materials, and excellent organisational and negotiation skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Procure electrical, mechanical, general materials, equipment, tools, and services required for projects and operations.
• Work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, and site teams to understand and plan procurement requirements.
• Source and evaluate local and international suppliers.
• Obtain and compare quotations, negotiate pricing, and secure favourable commercial terms.
• Evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, specifications, availability, delivery times, payment terms, warranties, and overall value.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers while protecting the company's commercial interests.
• Coordinate with freight forwarders, shipping companies, couriers, and other logistics providers for international orders.
• Monitor deliveries and proactively follow up with suppliers to prevent delays.
• Identify potential supply issues and implement alternative solutions where required.
• Manage Purchase Orders from placement through to delivery, ensuring accuracy of pricing, quantities, specifications, and terms.
• Resolve issues relating to shortages, delays, damaged or incorrect materials.
• Maintain accurate procurement records, supplier quotations, Purchase Orders, and delivery documentation.
• Maintain and develop the supplier database, including pricing history, lead times, and supplier performance.
• Monitor supplier and freight costs and negotiate where necessary.
• Provide management with information on procurement costs, savings opportunities, supplier performance, and supply chain risks.

Requirements

• Previous experience in procurement or purchasing, preferably within the mechanical and electrical, construction, engineering, or building services sector.
• Good technical knowledge of electrical and mechanical materials and equipment.
• Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
• Experience dealing with international suppliers and freight forwarders is highly advantageous.
• Ability to evaluate and compare suppliers based on overall value, not price alone.
• Excellent organisational and follow-up skills.
• Ability to manage multiple orders and project deadlines simultaneously.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and purchasing or Enterprise Resource Planning systems.
• High attention to detail, particularly regarding specifications, quantities, pricing, and delivery requirements.
