Description

The Procurement Manager for BESS is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring materials, equipment, and services required to support the successful execution of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) construction projects. This role ensures that all procurement activities align with project schedules, cost targets, and quality standards while maintaining compliance with company policies and contractual requirements.

This role serves as a critical link between project teams, vendors, and internal stakeholders, ensuring that materials are delivered on time, within budget, and in support of field operations.


Key Responsibilities

Project-Based Procurement Execution

  • Manage end-to-end procurement activities for BESS construction projects, from requisition through purchase order issuance and delivery tracking.
  • Source and procure key components such as battery systems, inverters, transformers, switchgear, racking systems, cabling, and balance-of-system materials.
  • Partner with Project Managers, Construction Managers, and Field Teams to understand project requirements and timelines.

Vendor Management & Strategic Sourcing

  • Identify, evaluate, and onboard qualified suppliers capable of supporting BESS construction needs.
  • Negotiate pricing, lead times, and contract terms to optimize total cost of ownership.
  • Develop and maintain strong vendor relationships to ensure reliability, quality, and responsiveness.

Cost Control & Financial Alignment

  • Support cost management initiatives by driving competitive bidding, value engineering, and cost reduction strategies.
  • Track committed spend and provide visibility into purchase order commitments versus project budgets.
  • Collaborate with Finance and Project Controls to support forecasting, accruals, and cost reporting.

Operational Oversight

  • Manage procurement workflows, purchase orders, and approval processes.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and procurement records.
  • Ensure timely delivery of materials aligned with construction schedules and site readiness.
  • Coordinate with logistics and transportation teams for delivery planning, including oversized or specialized equipment.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate supply chain risks that could impact project timelines.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Supervise procurement staff (if applicable).
  • Provide guidance and training on procurement procedures.
  • Partner with Finance, Legal, and Operations teams on contract execution.
  • Support organizational initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.

Compliance & Process Discipline

  • Ensure procurement activities comply with internal policies, contractual obligations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate documentation within ERP systems (e.g., D365) for audit readiness and reporting.
  • Support continuous improvement of procurement processes, tools, and reporting capabilities.


Requirements

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of procurement or supply chain experience within Renewable Energy.
  • Knowledge of BESS components, electrical systems, or utility-scale construction materials
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, project-driven environment with changing priorities
  • Commercial acumen with strong negotiation and cost management skills
  • Strong analytical and cost management skills.
  • Proficiency in ERP or procurement systems.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and reporting skills.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

  • Combination of office, remote, and active construction site environments
  • Ability to work extended hours during critical project phases
  • Working in all weather conditions
  • Must be able to lift more than 50 lbs
  • May require overtime, nights, or weekends based on project needs
