Introduction

Based in Sandton, Gauteng, the Procurement Manager | Africa will oversee procurement activities across our operations and projects in Africa. The Procurement Manager will be responsible for strategic sourcing, supplier management, purchasing, developing procurement strategies, cost optimization and analysis, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  1. Develop and implement effective procurement and category management strategies aligned with company objectives and regulatory requirements.
  2. Define and execute both long-term and short-term sourcing strategies for the assigned category.
  3. Take overall accountability for sourcing activities, including identifying and developing new suppliers and supply options.
  4. Negotiate and manage long-term and spot supply agreements to secure optimal commercial terms.
  5. Build, manage, and strengthen relationships with key suppliers, internal stakeholders, and external customers.
  6. Ensure effective management and continuous development of business relationships with key suppliers across the African region.
  7. Drive supplier performance improvement initiatives in collaboration with suppliers and internal stakeholders, focusing on cost reduction, quality optimization, and risk management.
  8. Lead and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance procurement efficiency and performance.
  9. Maintain a strong understanding of market developments and industry trends, with both short- and long-term perspectives.
  10. Monitor industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory changes across Africa to proactively mitigate risks and adapt procurement strategies.
  11. Ensure full compliance with Procurement Policy, Procurement Processes, and all related Yara procedures.
  12. Provide guidance and training.

Required skills

  • Excellent strategic negotiation and stakeholder management skills
  • Proven experience in strategic sourcing, supplier negotiation, and contract management
  • Strong understanding of procurement best practices and governance frameworks
  • Effective communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex credit risk concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with attention to detail and accuracy in credit risk assessment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams, demonstrating leadership and influencing skills.

Required qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Business, Finance, or a related field
  • Professional certifications (highly advantageous)
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in procurement, sourcing, or supply chain management
  • Minimum of 3 years experience managing a procurement function/team
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working across multiple African countries
