We have an exciting opportunity for Procurement Manager. The purpose of this role is to lead tactical commercial activities (Sourcing, Contracting, and Purchasing, including RECOs) for Kumba, ensuring safe, effective value delivery, streamlined execution and increased community supplier participation.

Kumba Iron Ore

We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Rosebank, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.

As our Procurement Manager your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Responsible for delivering an integrated, seamless Supply Chain service to the business, proactively foreseeing emerging issues and mobilising a rapid response to mitigate/resolve issues and risks.
  • Represent Supply Chain in relevant business committees and provide feedback to executive stakeholders on market trends, Supply Chain performance and any risks and mitigations.
  • Partner in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our procurement value chain.
  • End-to-end responsibility for procurement performance, supplier and contract management (including contract administration), and ensuring an effective handover to site implementation teams.
  • Accountable for procurement performance, value delivery and operational excellence, in partnership with country category management teams.
  • Execute purchasing activities by collecting stakeholder requirements, issuing and approving purchase orders, ensuring compliance with global agreements and local policies, supporting supplier negotiations, and monitoring supplier performance to meet business needs.
  • Provide leadership to advance the digitalisation of procurement activities in South Africa and ensure effective adoption of digital tools available.
  • Accountable for managing buying channels, ensuring channels are effectively and appropriately utilised to streamline procurement and manage risk.
  • Accountable for a complete and accurate commercial planning pipeline with 12 months of visibility.
  • Responsible for resolving escalated supplier performance issues in the managed portfolio.
  • Accountable for contract award decisions based on the relevant delegation of authority framework.
  • Drive a strategic approach across commercial work, with communities central to all commercial strategies, agreements, and associated initiatives.
  • Contribute to developing and implementing innovative business models and supplier partnering approaches that will drive significant positive and sustainable impact within our host communities.
  • Lead commercial contributions to the regional Inclusive Procurement step-change strategies, plans and targets.
  • Lead the development and implementation of portfolio-relevant social and sustainability strategies and initiatives that will contribute to the sustainable mine plans and enable the Living Mine.
  • Work with the Centre of Excellence to define, adopt and improve commercial excellence and leading practice.
  • Lead activities to address issues and risks identified through ABAS audits, compliance reviews, and other risk assessments/analyses.
  • Lead the adoption of standards, new ways of working, and system usage within your team, with suppliers and key stakeholders.

This role is in Supply Chain (SC) department on a Band 5 (E1) level reporting to the Head of Supply Chain.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12
  • An undergraduate qualification – Bachelor’s degree level or equivalent
  • A postgraduate qualification (Honours/Master's degree or equivalent) in a relevant discipline OR a proven track record of extensive practical experience in a role and context of similar complexity is preferred
  • SA Drivers Licence

Technical Knowledge

  • Strong overall knowledge of Supply Chain Management in a regional context (Sourcing, Purchasing, Contract, Warehousing, Inventory, Category management, etc)
  • Deep commercial and negotiation experience.
  • Supplier and Contractor Relationship Management.
  • Deep experience in Inclusive Procurement and strong understanding of in-region requirements.
  • Sourcing formulation and value creation.
  • Industry and Market Research.
  • Understanding of analytics and digital opportunities for Procurement
  • Understanding the importance of safety as an outstanding role model.
  • Demonstrates leadership by enforcing compliance with safety practices and procedures.
  • Possesses knowledge of safety policies and procedures, ensuring consistent adherence to safety values.
