The Procurement Manager will oversee the sourcing and purchasing of materials and supplies essential for our cannabis goods manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of procurement processes, supply chain management, the unique requirements of the cannabis industry, and ideally have contacts in the cannabis industry. To be successful in this role, the Procurement Manager will need to work closely with the supply and demand planning teams and the new product introduction team to ensure new projects are contracted accurately, timely, expedited when needed, and supply is available to meet the business demands. This role leads supply assurance efforts and delivers financial value to the business through the execution of cost savings and value optimization projects. Cronos is a fast-paced company in a growing industry so this role must be flexible and ready to support the rapid launch of new products.
This position will report to the Director of Procurement and will be based in Stayner, ON.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Sourcing and Procurement:
- Develop and implement procurement strategies to ensure timely and cost-effective acquisition of materials.
- Identify and evaluate potential suppliers, negotiate contracts, and establish long-term relationships to ensure supply stability and quality.
- Manage vendor performance, conduct regular assessments, and address any issues related to quality, delivery, or compliance.
Inventory Management:
- Stock Monitoring: Work close with supply chain team to continuously monitor inventory levels to ensure optimal stock availability and minimize both stockouts and excess inventory.
- Inventory Optimization: Implement inventory optimization techniques to balance stock levels with production schedules and demand patterns, aiming to reduce carrying costs and improve cash flow.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure all procurement activities comply with industry regulations, including cannabis-specific requirements.
- Stay updated on regulatory changes and incorporate necessary adjustments into procurement practices.
Cost Management:
- Lead all RFP’s and cost/contract negotiations for cannabis biomass, oils, extracts, as well as contract manufacturing services for gummy co-packing, preroll manufacturing, and/or vape formulations and filling.
- Analyze market trends and pricing to make informed purchasing decisions that balance cost and quality.
- Drive 10% year over year savings on all categories managed and track and report on cost savings and efficiencies.
Supplier Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and manufacturers.
- Source and develop preferred suppliers by category
- Address and resolve any supplier-related issues, including disputes and discrepancies.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with the new product introduction, supply chain, production, quality assurance, and R&D teams to align procurement activities with manufacturing needs and product development timelines and goals.
- Participate in cross-functional meetings to ensure seamless integration of procurement activities into overall business operations.
Reporting and Analysis:
- Prepare and present regular reports on procurement metrics, supplier performance, and inventory status.
- Analyze procurement data to identify trends, opportunities for improvement, and potential risks.
- Update and manage a supplier database to track vendor performance and contact info.
New Projects and Managing Procurement Deliverables:
- Project Planning: Collaborate with project managers and cross-functional teams to define procurement requirements for new projects, including timelines, specifications, and budgetary constraints.
- Vendor Selection: Lead the vendor selection process for new projects, including issuing RFPs (Request for Proposals), evaluating bids, and negotiating contracts to secure favorable terms.
- Procurement Deliverables: Manage procurement deliverables to ensure that materials and supplies are acquired on schedule and meet project specifications. Coordinate with suppliers to track delivery timelines and address any delays or issues.
- Project Coordination: Work closely with project teams to align procurement activities with project milestones and ensure that procurement activities support project timelines and goals.
You’ll need to have:
- 7-10 years as a Procurement Manager or similar role, preferably in the cannabis industry or a regulated sector.
- College degree required, ideally focus on Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field. Relevant certifications (e.g., CPP, CPSM) are a plus.
- Strong knowledge of procurement principles, supply chain management, and vendor negotiation.
- Familiarity with cannabis industry regulations and compliance requirements.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in SAP and Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment across multiple workstreams.
- Strong business acumen, analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail is required.
- Highly effective written and oral communication skills with ability to present complex information to varied audiences.
- Knowledge of sourcing fundamentals and ability to lead RFP’s with tight deadlines.
Salary range: $100,000 - $125,000 (Stayner, Ontario*) per year
