About Us

Clayco is a full-service, turnkey real estate development, master planning, architecture, engineering, and construction firm that safely delivers clients across North America the highest quality solutions on time, on budget, and above and beyond expectations. With $8.1 billion in revenue for 2025, Clayco specializes in the "art and science of building," providing fast track, efficient solutions for mission critical, industrial, life sciences, power & energy, aviation, commercial, institutional, residential and sports & entertainment related building projects.

The Role We Want You For

The Procurement Engineer supports the Procurement Lead for electrical scopes across drawing review, scope development, pricing, and buyout. This role is for a developing electrical professional with field experience who wants to learn how the work goes together, how it is priced, and how it is bought. Constructability, sequencing, trade coordination, and scope of work knowledge are at the core of this role, and you will grow them here.

Supports power distribution, switchgear, transformers, UPS and generators, busway, lighting, fire alarm, and low voltage packages on large-scale Data Center, Industrial, Life Science, Commercial, and Institutional projects. Candidates must bring prior hands-on field experience and a working knowledge of how the work is built. Team members are expected to cross-train in other scopes so the team can flex as project needs shift.

The Specifics of the Role

Drawing Review and Scope Support

  • Review electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, equipment schedules, and specifications with the Procurement Lead and perform conduit, wire, device, and equipment takeoffs
  • Draft scopes of work, inclusions, exclusions, and trade responsibility matrices, including owner-furnished equipment, utility work, temporary power, and testing responsibilities
  • Log drawing conflicts and missing information, and prepare RFIs for resolution before bid

Constructability and Coordination Support

  • Support constructability and sequencing reviews; document rough-in sequence, gear setting, energization, prefabrication, and delivery assumptions
  • Identify potential trade clashes and scope gaps (embedded conduit and duct banks, housekeeping pads, grounding, mechanical equipment connections, and utility interfaces) and bring them to the lead early

Pricing and Buyout Support

  • Build labor and material pricing breakouts: switchgear and major equipment, conduit and wire, devices and fixtures, prefabrication, installation labor by system and area, terminations, testing, and commissioning support
  • Assemble Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS) bid packages, issue invitations in BuildingConnected, manage bidder questions, and track coverage
  • Prepare bid leveling sheets and gap analysis to support the Procurement Lead's negotiation
  • Collect prequalification data (TradeTapp, licensing, safety records, and labor capacity) and support long-lead gear procurement and release

Execution Support

  • Track RFIs, submittals, gear releases, factory witness testing, utility coordination, and deliveries; flag slippage early
  • Review payment applications and stored equipment backup for accuracy
  • Prepare change event pricing comparisons and maintain cost tracking logs
  • Help maintain scope libraries, pricing templates, and lessons learned
  • Cross-train across other scopes to build breadth and support the team where volume is heaviest

Requirements

  • 2 to 5 years of experience in construction procurement, estimating, project engineering, or electrical contracting
  • Hands-on field experience required, such as field engineer, on-site project engineer, or construction internship
  • Ability to read electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, panel schedules, and specifications, and perform quantity takeoffs
  • Working understanding of power distribution, electrical equipment lead times, installation sequencing, and testing and energization
  • Strong Excel skills; Bluebeam, BuildingConnected, and Procore experience a plus
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and eager to learn, with clear written and verbal communication

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent field experience considered.
