Location: East Jordan, Michigan

The Procurement & Scheduling Coordinator supports both the production scheduling and purchasing functions by coordinating production schedules, material availability, and supplier communications to ensure efficient manufacturing operations and on-time delivery to customers. This role serves as a key liaison between Sourcing, Production, Purchasing, and external vendors by maintaining schedules, processing orders and expediting materials. The position focuses on day-to-day coordination, execution, and documentation while supporting higher-level planning and decision-making.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Production Scheduling & Manufacturing Coordination

  • Support the development and maintenance of production schedules based on customer orders, forecasts, and available capacity.
  • Coordinate workflow across manufacturing operations, CNC, assembly, outsourced operations, and other production processes.
  • Monitor production progress and assist with expediting jobs or adjusting schedules due to material shortages, capacity constraints, or unforeseen issues.
  • Prepare routine production reports and scheduling summaries to support KPI metrics and management review.
  • Assist shipping and logistics by communicating shipping instructions and delivery requirements.

Purchasing & Material Coordination

  • Review material requirements generated from production schedules and assist Purchasing with sourcing materials, tools, outsourced services, and supplies.
  • Prepare and process purchase orders within defined authority and in accordance with company procedures.
  • Communicate with vendors to obtain pricing, lead times, and delivery schedules; follow up to ensure on-time delivery of materials.
  • Track open purchase orders and coordinate with vendors, production, and receiving to resolve shortages or delays.
  • Maintain accurate procurement and scheduling records including orders, deliveries, inventories, and vendor communications.
  • Assist with vendor performance tracking, issue resolution for defective or unacceptable materials, and corrective action follow-up.
  • Support monthly and ad hoc reporting needs for production, purchasing, and customer service.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Two to four (2–4) years of experience in a manufacturing environment supporting production scheduling, purchasing, or materials coordination.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with ERP/MRP systems preferred.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, material flow, and supplier coordination.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with internal teams and external vendors.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in scheduling, purchasing, and recordkeeping.
  • Problem-solving skills with the ability to escalate issues appropriately.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented manufacturing environment.
