PROCESS/PROJECT ENGINEER

The primary purpose of this position is to lead and support the planning, design, and execution of capital projects to improve manufacturing processes, enhance operational efficiency, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards. This role involves managing projects from concept through commissioning, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and delivering projects on time and within budget.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Project Management:
    • Develop project scopes, budgets, and schedules for capital projects.
    • Manage all phases of project execution, including design, procurement, construction management, scheduling, installation, commissioning and start-up.
    • Ensure projects meet safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Construction Management:
    • Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
    • Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contracts.
    • Monitor construction progress and provide regular updates to project stakeholders.
  • Process Engineering:
    • Process-Engineering activities include the design of chemical process, equipment specifications, development of engineering specifications and standards, P&ID development, and control strategies.
    • Analyze current processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
    • Design and implement process changes to optimize performance and reduce costs.
    • Provide technical support during commissioning and troubleshooting.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with operations, maintenance, and quality teams to ensure project alignment with business objectives.
    • Coordinate with external vendors, contractors, and engineering firms.
  • Documentation & Compliance:
    • Prepare and maintain project documentation, including drawings, specifications, and reports.
    • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, quality and safety standards.

REPORTING STRUCTURE

  • This position reports to the Engineering Manager.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, or related Engineering field.
  • 4+ years of experience in process engineering and project management, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Proven experience managing capital projects from concept to completion.
  • Strong knowledge of process design, equipment selection, and project controls.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and engineering software (Ex. AutoCad, Microsoft Project or other, Excel, Power Point, etc).
  • Experience with PSM/RMP or CalARP methodology.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance (OSHA, EPA, etc.).
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies is beneficial.

  • Regular attendance is essential.
  • Perform all duties outlined in relevant SOPs and all other duties to be assigned.
  • Work with other staff members to maintain workload balances. Provide back-up support as necessary.
  • Support effective communication with all Hydrite departments where responsibilities overlap to ensure success of the branch team.
  • Report any potential food safety or GMP issues to your supervisor or SQF Practitioner upon observation.
  • Ability to travel overnight, by car and/or plane as needed, up to 50% of the time, for the execution of capital projects.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Due to safety concerns, the wearing of contact lenses in a chemical manufacturing facility is prohibited.
  • Able to work in environment where temperatures exceed 100 degrees Farenheit. Must be able to work outside in extreme heat and cold temperatures.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs. occassionally and/or 30 lbs. frequently.
  • Able to stand up to 12 hours per day.
  • Able to climb ladders and work at heights up to 50 feet on occasion.
  • Able to walk up to 6 hours per day.
  • Able to do repetitive motions like bend, twist, kneel, reach, balance, and lift. (Occasionally)
  • Able to perform manual dexterity tasks.
  • Able to be clean shaven. No exposed jewelry in body piercings when in GMP production area.
