Charge Processor

Enters patient DME charges for product received in a timely and accurate manner. Identifies and obtains missing billing and coding information from appropriate sources. Identifies moderately complicated charges/procedures and completes entry. Sorts incoming mail and charge documents.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, with coursework in medical terminology.
  • Licensure/ Registration/ Certification:
  • NA
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Computer/data entry skills, including 10-key skills also required.
  • Previous experience in a medical background including familiarity with medical coding preferred.
  • This position requires an individual who is detail oriented and has previous experience working with medical terminology as well as familiarity with basic principles of medical coding.
  • Proficiency in operating an alphanumeric keyboard, including 10-key skills is required.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written are required. Self-motivation and organizational skills required.
  • Personal computer, Excel, Word, HDMS DME billing software, EPIC, Cybersource, Outlook, Telephone, Photocopier, Fax, Calculator and Scanner.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination:
  • Previous experience in a medical background including familiarity with medical coding preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. (75-80) - Completes charge entry in HDMS billing software and releases billing of moderately complex coding/billing information from charge documents.
  2. (2-5%) – Identifies charge documents that include a high level of complexity, enters the necessary information into HDMS for billing to insurance.
  3. (2-5%) - Determines when basic information, such as provider numbers, as well as coding information, is missing from charge documents. Obtains missing information from appropriate source(s)
  4. (2%) - Reviews entry for accurateness and completeness.
  5. (5%) - Determines when it is necessary to seek guidance from coding experts on complex coding procedures.
  6. (2%) - Assists newer Charge Processors with moderately difficult problem solving.
  7. (1%) - Performs other tasks as assigned.
