Purpose of Job

Provide technical support by the independent formulation of a technical approach, data assimilation, assessment, interpretation and contextualisation for a portfolio of plant support activities and projects.

Provide solutions which are aligned to business unit goals and values. Deliver quality cost- effective solutions on time and within risk parameters. Monitor the performance of the plant and implemented solutions. Accept and implement advice given on programmes and systems to create competitive advantage. Review and report on the process and risk impact with regards to a portfolio of projects. Data assimilation, assessment, interpretation and contextualisation for a portfolio of plant support activities and projects.
  • Demonstrate the desired behaviors in agreement with the Sasol Values
  • Monitors plant units against established criteria, reports on observed deviations and collaborates with shift management to correct such operational deviations. Ensures alignment across shift teams on correction of deviations and improved operating procedures.
  • Investigates operational improvement opportunities, proposes plans to management (shift and area manager production, lead engineer) and implements in collaboration with production teams.
  • Investigate incidents (SHE, production, equipment failure/loss in performance, process condition and product quality deviation) using established Sasol RCA processes and as part of a team. Implement recommendations for operating procedure or plant systems as directed.
  • Investigate process improvements and propose modifications to resolve defined problems or exploit improvement opportunities.
  • Implement designed solutions as part of the project team, take responsibility for business track deliverables in operating systems update, training of artisans, updating of engineering records, commissioning of plant systems. Prepares professional reports on findings and recommendations and issues to management as part of the plant knowledge management process.
  • Implement plant modifications assigned in accordance with the procedures of the MOC process and ensure full update of plant engineering documentation and proper close-out of modifications under your control.
  • Supports the execution of improvement initiatives in the production environment to improve productivity, adherence to operating controls and procedures, process artisan competence and skills levels, monitoring and reporting of plant performance measures.
  • Participates and contributes to plant improvement and governance studies, e.g. RCA's, RBI studies, Incident investigations, etc.
  • Responsible to compile and distribute plant performance reports.
  • Perform production standby duties if declared competent and experienced to do so.
  • Collects plant data and evidence to supplement DCS and data historian information for problem analysis work. Escalates problem investigation to technical support level if a solution and correction of the problem cannot be achieved within one day.
  • Take ownership for personal improvement and skills development.

Formal Education

BTech University Bachelors Degree (South Africa)

Higher/Advanced Diploma (South Africa) in Engineering: Chemical
