Join us in making a positive impact on the environment and our communities, while being valued and supported in a truly inclusive workplace.

If you want to do more, because you care, we want you on our team.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

As a Bioresources Process Scientist, you’ll be part of a high-performing technical team dedicated to maintaining and improving the health and compliance of sludge treatment processes across six key sites in the north-west Severn Trent region

The team provides technical support to Bioresources Operational sites, ensuring biological and chemical processes are effectively monitored, optimised, and corrected to maximise biogas production. This is achieved through scientific sampling and data analysis. A key focus is maintaining high-quality biosolids in line with the Biosolids Assurance Scheme and Farming Rules for Water, fostering strong relationships with the agricultural community.

You’ll lead process investigations to identify and resolve non-compliance issues, collaborating with stakeholders to implement solutions and share learnings. You’ll monitor asset performance through sludge sampling and data analysis, driving initiatives to enhance efficiency and reduce emissions.

With a continuous improvement mindset, you’ll assess process strengths and weaknesses and support environmental improvement efforts across the region. Additionally, you’ll provide technical input during the commissioning of new plants and ensure smooth integration of new schemes in collaboration with the Capital Delivery Team.

The sites you will be responsible for are:

  • Strongford, Staffordshire
  • Brancote Dewatering, Stafford
  • Barnhurst, Wolverhampton
  • Rushmoor Telford
  • Monkmoor, Shrewsbury
  • Coalport Dewatering

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

Key responsibilities

  • Put health, safety and wellbeing first, making sure all work meets compliance standards in high-risk environments while helping the team achieve its performance goals.
  • Use your technical knowledge, data and trend analysis to keep sludge treatment processes healthy, spot changes early and work with others to put safe, timely solutions in place.
  • Assess proposed process or asset changes, including temporary or permanent asset removal, and provide clear guidance to minimise risk and maintain performance.
  • Provide technical input into capital projects, from developing commissioning plans through to monitoring new assets and processes as they go live.
  • Help build capability across our sites by setting standards, sharing process knowledge and delivering practical training for on-site testing.
  • Lead the monitoring and reporting of statutory and regulatory compliance, working closely with internal and external stakeholders to drive continuous improvement across Bioresources.

What you’ll bring:

  • Experience working with process systems and confidence using data, IT systems and automation to understand performance and solve problems.
  • A practical, curious approach and an openness to new techniques and technologies, with enthusiasm to work towards the Process Scientist Competency Framework and continue learning.
  • Clear communication and strong people skills, with the ability to work well as part of a team or independently using your own initiative.
  • A flexible, hands-on attitude and the fitness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
