Job Description:

Process Safety Engineer

Location: Pasadena, TX | Specialty Resins Division

Help Lead Process Safety. Strengthen Reliability. Protect People and Operations.

Mitsubishi Chemical America is seeking a Process Safety Engineer to support our Specialty Resins Division in Pasadena, Texas. This is a highly visible role for an engineer who enjoys working closely with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, and site leadership to strengthen process safety systems and reduce risk across a complex chemical manufacturing environment.

In this role, you’ll serve as a key Process Safety Management subject matter expert, helping ensure compliance with OSHA PSM and EPA RMP requirements while also driving practical improvements that make the plant safer, more reliable, and more resilient.

What You’ll Do

You’ll lead and support critical process safety activities across the site, including:

  • Lead and facilitate Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), LOPAs, risk assessments, and Management of Change activities
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for Process Safety Management systems and their application across plant operations
  • Partner with site leadership, Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance to identify hazards and implement effective risk-reduction strategies
  • Lead PSM self-assessments and support internal and external compliance audits
  • Develop and maintain PSM policies, standards, procedures, metrics, and key performance indicators
  • Support the site’s Asset Integrity and Reliability program, including criticality assessments, inspection strategies, preventive maintenance, and equipment reliability
  • Review process safety events, near misses, releases, technical deviations, procedure changes, and corrective actions
  • Maintain key process safety documentation, including facility siting studies, PHAs, LOPA documentation, Major Accident Hazard information, and PSM self-assessments
  • Review and apply RAGAGEP standards, including ASME, API, and NFPA requirements
  • Provide process safety training and help build process safety competency across the organization
  • Partner with the Emergency Response Team to develop tabletop drills and emergency scenarios based on site risks
  • Track regulatory changes, share lessons learned, and continuously improve the site’s process safety programs

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is both technically strong and comfortable being visible in the plant. You should be able to work independently, challenge the status quo when needed, and build strong working relationships across all levels of the organization.

Required/Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field required
  • Approximately 3–5 years of experience in an industrial chemical plant environment required
  • Experience in Process Safety Management, Process Engineering, Production Engineering, or Asset Integrity Engineering
  • Understanding of plant equipment, P&IDs, unit operations, corrosion, materials selection, NDE/NDT methods, vessel inspections, and overhaul planning
  • Strong knowledge of industry codes and standards such as ASME, API, and NFPA
  • PHA, LOPA, or quantitative risk assessment leadership experience preferred
  • Strong organizational, communication, and follow-through skills
  • Ability to work effectively across Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and site leadership

The salary range for this position is $110,000–$120,000. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary may also be subject to geographic adjustment if authorization is granted to work outside of the posted location.
