About this Position

The Process Safety Engineer is expected to develop and maintain a detailed understanding of the manufacturing processes under their responsibility through direct engagement with plant operations, review of process documentation, participation in production activities, and independent use of plant information systems. The role requires the ability to gather, analyse and interpret process data directly from SCADA, historian, and production systems

What you´ll do

  • Lead and maintain the site's Process Safety Management (PSM) programme, ensuring compliance with company standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Facilitate and coordinate process hazard and risk assessments, including HAZOP, LOPA, FMEA, ATEX, and other recognised methodologies, to identify and mitigate operational risks.
  • Act as the site subject matter expert for process safety, providing guidance to operations, engineering, maintenance, and project teams on risk management and safety performance.
  • Lead process safety incident investigations, identifying root causes, lessons learned, and corrective actions to drive continuous improvement and prevent recurrence.
  • Manage and maintain critical process safety documentation, including the Basis of Safety (BoS), risk assessments, operating procedures, and compliance records.
  • Monitor and report process safety performance through KPI analysis, audits, inspections, and assurance activities, ensuring effective implementation of safety controls and safeguards.
  • Support capital projects, management of change (MoC), Pre-Start-Up Safety Reviews (PSSRs), and operational readiness activities to ensure safe design and implementation of new or modified processes.
  • Develop strong partnerships across manufacturing teams, maintaining a visible presence on site to promote a proactive safety culture, embed best practices, and enhance emergency preparedness and response.

What makes you a good fit

  • Degree qualified in Science or Engineering, ideally in Chemical, Mechanical, Process Safety, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience within a chemical manufacturing or high-hazard industrial environment, with a strong understanding of process safety principles and operational risk management.
  • Professional certifications such as Chartered Engineer, Certified Functional Safety Engineer, or NEBOSH Process Safety Management are advantageous.
  • Strong technical expertise across multiple process safety disciplines, including process hazard analysis, risk assessment, loss prevention, incident investigation, process safety auditing, and engineering design.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant process safety legislation, regulations, and industry standards, with the ability to apply these in a practical manufacturing environment.
  • Experience leading or participating in risk assessments, safety studies, audits, investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret technical data, identify trends, and make risk-based recommendations.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, enabling you to influence teams, build strong relationships, and drive a positive process safety culture across the site.
