Process Metallurgist

• Location: Angola
• Rotation: 8 weeks on / 2 weeks off
• Contract: Fixed-term, renewable
• Salary: R90,000 to R110,000/month

Role Purpose

As a Process Metallurgist, you will play a pivotal role in driving plant performance and diamond recovery excellence. Reporting to the Production Superintendent, you will lead process audits, champion metallurgical best practices, and ensure the efficient, safe, and compliant operation of DMS and recovery circuits. This is a high-impact role for a seasoned metallurgist who thrives in remote-site operations and has a passion for continuous improvement and results.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead and conduct detailed metallurgical audits to ensure compliance with production, quality, and legal standards
• Optimise the DMS and recovery circuit performance, focusing on throughput, yield, and recovery efficiency
• Identify variances and implement timeous remedial actions to resolve process inefficiencies
• Champion quality control across all process plant activities
• Prepare and present technical reports and performance data to senior stakeholders
• Drive the implementation of best practice standards in process metallurgy
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to maximise plant productivity
• Contribute to the development and execution of the production budget and capital expenditure initiatives
• Mentor and upskill plant personnel to build internal capability and ensure effective succession planning
• Conduct metallurgical test work and translate insights into actionable improvements
• Ensure full compliance with safety, health, environmental, and security requirements

Skills and Technical Expertise

• Deep knowledge of DMS and recovery circuit technologies in a diamond or mineral separation environment
• Proven ability to lead metallurgical investigations and interpret process data
• Strong understanding of plant efficiency drivers and quality systems
• Excellent technical reporting and data presentation skills
• Competence in metallurgical test work and equipment utilisation
• Strong coaching, communication, and leadership abilities
• High level of professionalism, discipline, and accountability in field-based environments

Minimum Requirements

• Degree in Metallurgical Engineering or related discipline (essential)
• Minimum 5 years experience in DMS and recovery circuits, with at least 3 years in a senior or leadership role
• Valid Code 8 driver's licence
• Clear criminal record (security clearance required)

Preferred Requirements

• 8+ years in diamond processing or mineral separation environments
• Additional qualification in management or operations leadership
• Prior experience in remote site rotation work preferred
