Job Description
About the role
We are looking for a Process or Mechanical Engineer to join our growing Waste-to-Energy team in Malaysia.
This role is suited to an engineer with 5–10 years’ experience who wants to work on complex waste, energy, thermal processing and industrial infrastructure projects across Malaysia and the wider APAC region. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in Waste-to-Energy, thermal treatment, power generation, industrial processing, utilities, or large-scale process facilities.
Experience from a client organisation, EPC contractor or engineering consultant is preferred. Experience from an OEM or technology supplier can be relevant, but this role is broader than equipment supply and requires the ability to work across the full project lifecycle, including feasibility, concept design, procurement, design review, construction support and commissioning.
Your new role
As our new Process / Mechanical Engineer, you will support the delivery of Waste-to-Energy and related waste infrastructure projects. You will work with project managers, technical specialists, discipline engineers, contractors and clients to develop, review and deliver practical engineering solutions.
The role will include technical advisory, owner’s engineer support, design review, project engineering and site-facing activities. You will help ensure that technical deliverables are robust, coordinated, fit-for-purpose and aligned with client, contract, safety, environmental and regulatory requirements.
You will be part of Ramboll’s regional Waste-to-Energy team, working with colleagues in Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, India and Europe.
Key responsibilities
Your responsibilities may include:
- Support feasibility studies, concept design, technical due diligence and project development for Waste-to-Energy and related processing facilities.
- Prepare and review technical deliverables, including design basis documents, process descriptions, specifications, datasheets, layouts, PFDs, P&IDs, equipment lists and technical reports.
- Review EPC contractor, vendor and supplier submissions for technical compliance, completeness and suitability.
- Support technical aspects of EPC procurement, including tender documentation, clarifications, bid evaluation and technical recommendations.
- Coordinate with process, mechanical, electrical, civil, environmental, HSE and commercial specialists to resolve interfaces and technical issues.
- Support design review activities during project implementation, including tracking comments, closing technical actions and ensuring design decisions are properly documented.
- Participate in HAZOP, design review, constructability, operability, maintainability and commissioning readiness workshops.
- Support site visits, inspections, progress reviews, factory acceptance tests and commissioning activities as required.
- Prepare clear technical notes, meeting inputs, client reports and decision-ready recommendations.
- Work closely with project managers to support scope, schedule, quality, risk and change management.
- Build trusted relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers and internal project teams.
- Contribute to proposals, project references, capability statements and business development activities where required.
