Job Description

Audubon is currently seeking a Senior Process Engineer to be part of a project team in our Metairie, LA. The Senior Process Engineer’s responsibilities will provide process engineering support to help maintain and enhance the safe, efficient, reliable, and environmentally friendly operation of the nitrogen fertilizer production units while maximizing production capacity. They will work with other disciplines within the Engineering Department as well as, Operations, Maintenance and EHS to ensure solutions meet overall business objectives.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Areas of Responsibility will include:

  • Coordinating cross-functional teams to ensure overall project success.
  • Identifying, recommending, and implementing project management best practices using a stage-gate FEL framework and risk management techniques.
  • Leading the execution of multiple projects of moderate to high complexity.
  • Leading site safety relief valve evaluation and coordination.
  • Completing performance evaluations and generate recommendations to resolve identified problems found in process equipment including PSV’s compressors, turbines, heat exchangers, absorbers, strippers, boilers, combustion equipment, and reactors.
  • Providing process optimization, design, troubleshooting, data analysis, and technical support to the operations organization.
  • Providing detailed engineering support and monitor / expedite assigned jobs through the Management of Change process to ensure timely execution.
  • Evaluating and participating in the development of capital improvement projects to improve reliability, increase production capacity, improve energy efficiency, and enhance EHS performance.
  • Preparing and reviewing documents including PFDs, P&IDs, scopes of work, and equipment specifications to support capital improvement project budget authorization requests and approved project execution.
  • Providing detailed written justifications for management approval.
  • Reviewing new operational procedures and conducting training for operations personnel for significant changes.
  • Participating in PHAs, HAZOP studies, LOPA studies, and incident investigations.
  • Providing direct technical support and inspection of various new equipment fabrication or refurbishment of existing equipment at the site, or, at the equipment manufacturing facilities.
  • Identifying and implementing solutions to EHS related action items to meet schedule requirements.
  • Assisting Maintenance and Operations during turnarounds by providing pre-turnaround process and project engineering recommendations, assisting in planning specialty work, performing equipment inspections related to process issues, monitoring equipment repairs that can affect the process, coordinating catalyst replacements, and assisting with plant restarts.
  • Coaching / mentoring junior engineers in the department to develop their capabilities.
  • Continually evaluating ways to improve site safety.
  • Maintaining a professional working relationship with all departments.
  • Understanding and complying with departmental processes and procedures designed to support internal controls efforts.
  • Identifying and bringing to the attention of department management internal controls deficiencies.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for the position:

  • BS degree in Chemical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • 10+ years of engineering related experience in the oil, gas, or chemical manufacturing industry preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience with capital project development and/or execution preferred.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) required. Must be able to effectively communicate and interact with personnel of all backgrounds.
  • Ability and willingness to collect field data, enter process equipment for inspections, and otherwise work in an operating chemical facility environment.
  • Ability and willingness to work alternative shifts/schedules to support 24 hour/7 days per week operations during process unit startups, shutdowns, upsets, vessel inspections, and catalyst reductions.
  • Must be able to acquire Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC).
