Serves as the technical owner and subject matter expert for assigned packaging processes and production lines, providing hands-on support, leading root-cause investigations, and implementing sustainable improvements in safety, quality, delivery, cost, and operational performance.

Area Responsibilities:

  • Provide on-the-floor support for packaging lines / manufacturing equipment, including rapid troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and process-related issues to minimize downtime and maintain OEE targets.

  • Lead Continuous Improvement projects using methodologies like Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and root cause analysis (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone diagrams) to eliminate waste and enhance processes.
  • Develop and execute cost-saving strategies, such as material optimization, waste reduction, and energy efficiency measures, while tracking ROI and reporting on savings achieved.
  • Collaborate with operators, maintenance teams, and suppliers to cross-train staff, redesign process flows, and ensure compliance with quality standards (e.g., ISO 9001, FDA if applicable).
  • Monitor multiple production lines for process stability using statistical process control (SPC) tools and predictive maintenance techniques.
  • Conduct risk assessments, safety audits, and ergonomic evaluations to prevent incidents and support a safe working environment.
  • Prepare reports and dashboards on KPIs, presenting findings to management to inform decision-making.
  • Stay updated on industry trends in manufacturing and packaging technology and materials to propose innovative solutions.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Three to five (3-5) years in a manufacturing or process engineering role, preferably in high-volume production environments. Proven track record in improving OEE, implementing Continuous Improvement, and delivering Cost Savings.
  • Physical Demands: Sedentary work that requires minimum physical effort. It also requires skills in communication, eye-hand coordination, and the ability to move. Will require near visual acuity.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Bilingual (English/Spanish-oral and written). Thorough knowledge of cGMPs and other regulatory regulations. Leadership skills. Excellent oral expression and good writing techniques. Advanced data modeling or predictive analytics skills. Demonstrated success in achieving quantifiable KPI improvements (e.g., 10% OEE increase or $X in annual cost savings). Computer literate. Teamwork oriented.
  • Certifications/Licenses not required, but preferred: Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, Lean Practitioner, Project Management, Certified Manufacturing Engineer, or other relevant professional certification.
  • Leadership: Incumbent should demonstrate solid competencies on the current values and behaviors to effectively contribute to the transformation of the scope of work.

Other Requirements:

  • Able to travel in and outside of Puerto Rico.
  • Able to work extra hours and to respond to emergency calls that require returning to the company after regular working hours of the business.
