Job Description

In this position ...

  • You will be Responsible for managing the Heat Treatment and Chemical Treatment processes in the building.
  • Requires a deep understanding of specific manufacturing disciplines, particularly heat treatment processes for the carburizing of rings and pinions. You will manage operations across both pusher and batch-style furnaces, evaluating the ergonomics of quenching and fixture-loading workflows to ensure operator safety. Additionally, you will lead "Visual Factory" management to make furnace cycle status, metallurgical trends, and production issues transparent to all team members.

What you'll do...

· Manage quality documentation process control plans, operator instructions, SCCAF, PFMEA, and heat treatment test documentation, etc.

· Participate in Quality and Safety audits.

· Prepare standard reports for Quality reviews within the plant and with other areas.

· Review rejected parts for quality integrity and decide next steps. Issue daily Incoming Quality report.

· Lead cross functional team initiatives in quality to achieve no faults forward / zero defects.

· Lead 8D resolution of Warranty and VO concerns working together with Quality, MP&L, Machining & VO

· Coordinate Green and Black Belt projects within the department.

· Document and control error proofing checks, internal checks, and additional containments.

· Participate in interplant benchmarking exercises

· Actively participate in Simultaneous Engineering meetings, Forward Planning and Product Design to ensure MTC process is followed.

· Apply engineering principles & analytical techniques to establish and continuously improve manufacturing processes and products

· Implement interim & permanent corrective actions to resolve quality issues using 8D tool, 6 panel, etc.

· Manage and direct statistical process control activities

· Knowledge of and ability to execute measurement systems analysis & variable data analysis

· Establish and monitor quality target levels for each build

· Provide input for design and assembly concepts which will yield nominal variations

· Establish critical characteristics for gauging and measuring data collection methods

· Determine inspection equipment and facility requirements

· Support expedited concern resolution with cross functional teams including the Quality Department, Production and Suppliers

· Review internal/external suppliers for critical characteristics process compatibility

· Review incoming quality concerns to maintain quality with assigned area; must have experience with initiating containment, determining root cause, and implementing corrective actions

· Work with and manage hourly (UAW) personnel as required

You'll have...

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED

  • 1+ years of experience working in a manufacturing engineering environment (internship and coop experience will be considered)

  • 1+ year of Process Engineering experience (can include co-op/internships)

  • Proven problem-solving ability

  • Experience with heat treatment/chemical treatment process

  • Microsoft Office Knowledge (Word/Excel/Outlook)

Even better, you may have...

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering preferred
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • 2 or more years in the automotive industry
  • Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience
  • 8D and 5Why corrective action and problem solving skills
  • Solid understanding of Lean Tools – 5S, Kanban, Poka-yoke, and Value Stream Mapping
  • Familiarity with DMAIC and DMADV (DFSS) Project Methodology experience
  • Knowledge of TQM and Kaizen Methods
  • FMEA, PPAP, and DOEs experience
  • Validated experience with Visual Factory Management

This position is a salary grade 6 and ranges from $72,480-121,440.

This position is a salary grade 7 and ranges from $84,480-141,360.

This position is a salary grade 8 and ranges from $96,720-162,120.
