Process Engineer Front-End | Global Pharmaceutical Projects | Concept Design & GMP Environment | Basel, Switzerland

Join a major pharmaceutical engineering project in Basel, Switzerland.

We are currently supporting the recruitment of a Process Engineer Front-End for a consulting assignment based in Basel, Switzerland, within a leading global pharmaceutical environment.

This position offers the opportunity to contribute to high-impact CAPEX and manufacturing projects during the early project phases, supporting the development of complex biopharmaceutical and GMP-regulated facilities.

The role is particularly suited to professionals who combine strong technical engineering capabilities with stakeholder management, project coordination and a pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset.

The Role

As a Process Engineer Front-End, you will support project initiation activities from ideation and feasibility through concept design.

Working directly within the client environment, you will collaborate with operations, MSAT, engineering partners and project stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical project scope and engineering concepts.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Translating business requirements into technical project scope documentation
  • Supporting ideation, feasibility and concept design phases
  • Developing and reviewing:
    • Block Flow Diagrams (BFDs)
    • Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
    • Mass balances
    • Equipment lists
  • Supporting the development of User Requirement Specifications (URS)
  • Coordinating with engineering partners, EPCMs and cross-functional teams
  • Reviewing engineering deliverables and ensuring alignment with scope, schedule and quality expectations
  • Supporting GMP, EHS and sustainability compliance objectives
  • Communicating effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Managing multiple priorities within fast-paced project environments

Technical Environment

Projects may involve:

  • Biologics
  • Cell & Gene Therapy
  • mRNA manufacturing
  • Small molecules
  • Bioconjugates
  • Drug product / aseptic manufacturing
  • Laboratory facilities

Requirements

Candidate Profile

We are looking for professionals who bring both technical expertise and strong interpersonal skills.

Ideal candidates will typically have:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in pharmaceutical or biotech process engineering
  • Strong understanding of GMP / cGMP environments
  • Experience within front-end engineering, concept design or project initiation phases
  • Experience working with EPCMs, engineering consultancies or client-side project teams
  • Strong coordination and stakeholder management capabilities
  • Excellent communication skills in English (mandatory)
  • A proactive, adaptable and collaborative mindset

More senior profiles with 10+ years of experience are also highly relevant. Multiple roles may be available.

Benefits

Contract Details

  • Location: Basel, Switzerland
  • Contract Type: 12-month rolling contract
  • Work Model: On-site within the client environment
  • Rate: 90–120 CHF/hour depending on experience (more or less 160k–200k CHF yearly)
  • Flexible start date
  • Visa and onboarding support available
  • Candidates may live in Switzerland or commute from neighboring France
