Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Scope of Role

Corning is seeking a Process Engineer to provide technical support for the chemical, environmental, and facility systems powering our optical fiber manufacturing operations. In this role, you will drive process understanding through data analysis and experimentation, lead improvement projects, and collaborate with a team of engineering and operations experts to solve complex manufacturing challenges. This position includes rotating off-hours coverage on nights and weekends shared with teammates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide process engineering support for chemical, environmental control, and facility systems in an optical fiber manufacturing environment
  • Analyze process data, design and execute experiments, and collaborate with subject matter experts to diagnose and resolve technical issues
  • Lead or support cost reduction, process optimization, and new product/process introduction projects
  • Track key process metrics and implement response plans to address performance trends
  • Support startup of new equipment and systems; maintain technical documentation and deliver training to engineering and operations teams

Work Hours, Location and Travel Requirements

  • Location : Concord, NC
  • Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: ~8 hours/day 40 hours/week. This position requires off-hours coverage on nights and weekends on a rotating basis with co-workers.
  • Travel Requirements: Less than 5%

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering preferred) from an accredited four-year college.
  • Proficiency with data analysis tools including Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, SQL, and statistical/visualization packages (e.g., JMP, Power BI, PI ProcessBook, Python)
  • Experience with experimental design and data-driven process analysis in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience supporting or leading structured product or process development projects

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification
  • Knowledge of manufacturing cost accounting
  • Project management experience

The range for this position is $69,146.00 - $95,076.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
