Job Description

This position is responsible for providing technical leadership and process engineering support for injection molding operations across multiple facilities. The role will spend approximately 60% of its time traveling to support plant operations, launches, troubleshooting, and process improvements, with approximately 30% of the time based at the Fraser facility. The position will own molding processes, drive improvements in cycle time, scrap, and quality, support new program launches, develop standardized processes, and supervise Process Technicians.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor plant processes for molding machines and make detailed recommendations on how to optimize the manufacturing process.
  • Own the process for all manufacturing molding and associated operations.
  • Support the Program Managers in meeting samples required for new product releases and / or process evaluations.
  • Respond to all Quality and Operator issues regarding parts and processes.
  • Support, Update and improve existing machine technology.
  • Assist Manufacturing in the launch of new programs.
  • Define specifications for new or improved equipment. Participate in equipment design in coordination with designers, vendors, and other engineers.
  • Assist in reducing external PPM.
  • Assist in training Process Techs and Operators and Maintenance.
  • Supervise Process Techs.
  • Initiate and execute strategic projects, using Kaizen, RIE, and CI methodologies to improve injection molding process performance metrics to the next level as measured by cycle time and scrap.
  • Manage the documented process setting and change control procedures and audit for discipline and compliance.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Tech Manager.

Requirements

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • Three to five years’ experience in troubleshooting injection molding equipment preferred
  • Must have good knowledge regarding the design of injection molds and related equipment
  • Strong Team Player with exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONSThe physical demands, work environment factors and mental functions described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Able to stand, stoop, twist, climb and repetitively perform tasks for long periods of time (8 to 12 hours).
  • Able to bend the body forward and downward while bending at the spine at the waist 45 degrees or more; bending below thE waist or down toward an object on or near the ground.
  • Able to work around hot molds, presses, cranes, and industrial equipment and work in tight spaces.
  • Able to use hands and fingers to seize, hold, grasp objects.
  • Ability to extend arms with the hands higher than the head; reaching at or below shoulder level.
  • Ascend or descend ramps and/or stairs using feet and legs.
  • Ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds (machinery alarms, medical codes, or warnings). Work frequently in close proximity to machinery; noise levels are moderate.
  • Close vision (distance of 20 inches or less) and ability to identify/distinguish colors.
  • Hands-on role 60-80% of the time, with mixture of desk and computer duties.
  • Temperature in facility can vary up to 90 degrees. Candidates must be able to perform duties in hot and cold environments.
  • Able to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% to 100% of the time.
  • Able to ascend/descend forklift and standing lift, trailers, steps, ladders etc.
  • No aversion to heights
  • Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
  • Frequently exposed to high, precarious places.
