Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Function/Dept Purpose Statement:

The Process Engineer – Fiber, Cable & Connectivity Solutions is responsible for developing, optimizing, and sustaining manufacturing processes to ensure high-quality, cost-effective, and scalable production of fiber, cable, and connectivity products. The role focuses on process standardization, yield improvement, defect reduction, and supporting new product introductions (NPI) while ensuring safety and compliance with industry standards

Position Responsibilities:

Process Development & Optimization

  • Develop and maintain manufacturing processes for:
  • Optical fiber, fiber optic cables, copper cables
  • Connectivity products such as connectors, patch cords, harnesses, and assemblies
  • Define process flow diagrams, work instructions, control plans, and SOPs.
  • Optimize processes to improve productivity, yield, and cost efficiency.
  • Establish and monitor critical process parameters and control limits.

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure processes meet product quality standards and customer specifications.
  • Drive defect reduction through root cause analysis (RCA), CAPA, and PFMEA.
  • Support audits and compliance to ISO, customer, and telecom standards.
  • Improve process capability (Cp, Cpk) and reduce scrap and rework.

New Product & Process Introduction (NPI)

  • Support industrialization of new fiber, cable, or connectivity products.
  • Participate in equipment selection, tooling design, trials, and validation.
  • Lead pilot runs, process qualification, and ramp-up to mass production.
  • Ensure smooth transition from development to production.

Manufacturing Support

  • Provide day-to-day process engineering support to production teams.
  • Troubleshoot process issues related to extrusion, stranding, jacketing, termination, polishing, testing, or assembly.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and automation teams for equipment reliability and improvements.
  • Support automation, digital manufacturing, and Industry 4.0 initiatives.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Production, Quality, R&D, Supply Chain, and EHS teams.
  • Support customer interactions, trials, and technical discussions when required.
  • Coordinate with suppliers on materials, tooling, and process improvements

Continuous Improvement

  • Drive Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen initiatives to eliminate waste and variation.
  • Use data, SPC, and Pareto analysis to identify and prioritize improvements.

Required Experience:

  • Process mapping, PFMEA, and control plans
  • Knowledge of fiber/cable manufacturing processes and testing
  • Statistical Process Control (SPC) and data analysis
  • Root cause analysis and problem-solving
  • Lean / Six Sigma fundamentals
  • Strong documentation and communication skill

Required Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Industrial, Production, or Materials Engineering).
  • 3–8 years of experience in process engineering or manufacturing engineering.
  • Experience in fiber optic, cable, wire, electronics, or connectivity product manufacturing
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and quality systems.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong Data Analysis skills (Control Charts, Pareto Analysis, Pivot Table) and Analytical mindset
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and/or as a team leader
  • Technical aptitude conducive to building proficiency in troubleshooting manufacturing equipment and evaluating manufacturing data.
  • Experience with MS-office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and MS Access.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or DMAIC project experience.
