Process Automation Supervisor

Serve as working leader for group of automation and process engineers driving new equipment & system introductions, process improvements and cost reduction projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead team of Automation and Process engineers in the development startup, and scaleup of high volume discreet manufacturing equipment.
  • Develop and maintain learning plans for engineering team
  • Provide controls and mechanical engineering expertise in support of new equipment & system introductions, cost reductions, maintenance, and productivity improvements. 
  • Interface with external system integrators and machine builders to successfully deliver fully integrated automation equipment to Corning’s plants on-time, on-budget, and that satisfy performance measures. 
  • Actively participate / direct all phases of the project including design, fabrication, installation, production start-up support, training of plant personnel and sustainment. 
  • Internal subject matter expert in control systems (PLC, HMI, Motion Control Systems, Machine Vision), system integration, sensors and electro-mechanical devices. 
  • Ensure all controls engineering projects are documented properly with electrical drawing packages conforming to Corning standards. 
  • Work with project team to solve automation problems, resolve project related issues, and develop fundamental understanding of technical / process requirements critical to system success 
  • Individual must be capable of executing project assignments as well as managing projects, in a team based environment, with minimal supervision.

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • +5 years of experience
  • Demonstrated delivery of results through project and organizational leadership
  • Experience in operations and/or engineering with progressive responsibilities
  • Proven track record of team leadership and direct supervision
  • Ability to manage local team of engineers during development, startup, and scaleup of manufacturing processes
  • Fundamental understanding of electrical design practices, control systems integration, controls, architectures, electro-mechanical drive systems, and safety systems 
  • Experience with programming PLCs and HMIs 
  • Machine vision system experience 
  • Robotics experience (Fanuc)
  • Ability to design and program motion control systems 
  • Ability to understand and update electrical schematics 
  • Ability to perform a machine safety risk assessment 
  • Experienced in the preparation of controls drawings using AutoCAD software (or similar) or detailed equipment drawings using Solidworks (or similar)
  • Experienced in the design and troubleshooting of electrical control panels 
  • Able to effectively communicate ideas and concepts to peers, subordinates and leadership within the organization and across organizational lines 
  • Highly motivated, results oriented, and customer focused 
  • Must be a team player in addition to making individual contributions
  • Project Management Skills
