Job Description

This role is PRN only, no guaranteed hours each week, would prefer open availability to cover vacations, PTO, call-outs, and busy transport days.

The responsibilities of the Driver include:

  1. Transport Hooverwood Residents as requested on medical runs, daily outings, etc. Stays with and assists residents with non-medical needs on out-of-home excursions.
  2. The Driver regularly checks in with the Lead receptionist who schedules appointments/transportation and follow up him/her if there are any issues.
  3. Assures safety of passengers while boarding, driving, and exiting the vehicle by appropriate use of van lift, tie-downs, step, or physical assistance.
  4. Assures the vehicle is always kept clean, inside and out.
  5. The Driver assures the vehicle is maintained according to a preventive maintenance program by reporting any maintenance failures or concerns immediately to Supervisor.
  6. When not transporting residents or during down time, assists in Activities as needed or may perform other light duty garden tasks.
  7. Reports any behavioral changes or concerns of resident while being transported to appropriate your Supervisor.
  8. Transporter does not and is not qualified to perform resident stand/pivot transfers. Must seek out appropriate staff if this type of transfer is needed/required.

Requirements

All Driver's must:

  • Possess and maintain a valid Indiana Driver’s License
  • Have an excellent driving record
  • Be able to read a map and road signs

Physical or Mental Functions Required to Perform Job of Driver: The Driver (1) must function effectively under timelines and multiple demands; (2) must be able to fully and effectively communicate orally and have the ability to write or type; (3) must be able to read normal print/script and computer generated type; (4) must have the ability to hear effectively; (5) must have full use of at least one arm and hand; (6) must be ambulatory; (7) must be able to bend and lift through use of proper body mechanics; (8) must be able to lift up to 20 pounds; (9) must be able to push and pull wheelchairs with resident’s full body weight; (10) must be able to physically assist passengers in boarding or departing the vehicle at all times.
