JOB PURPOSE:
To monitor the activities of residents of the shelter/center and to ensure compliance with program rules and expectations. Shelter Support Staff is also responsible for ensuring the safety of residents and the security and sanitation of the program. The Shelter Support Staff will help to oversee and to take reasonable action necessary to carry out responsibilities assigned as long as such action does not deviate from established organizational policies and is consistent with program guidelines and sound professional judgment.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Responsible for providing a safe, structured environment that meets the needs of the client while maintaining professional and acceptable boundaries at all times.
· Maintain positive relationships with clients, and management staff.
· Provides consistent coverage for assigned shifts, working within the team and independently to complete all shift tasks.
· Performs general administrative functions such as answering the phone and responding to in-person inquiries in a professional manner.
· Assist with food pantry logistics.
· Consult with direct supervisor or supervisor on-duty regarding residents’ personal needs and behavior.
· Utilize positive behavioral management techniques including verbal redirection.
· Assist residents within limits in processing issues and problem-solving.
· Monitor all areas of the shelter to ensure compliance with facility rules, policies, procedures, and protocols.
· Hyper-sanitization of all areas in the shelter.
· Respond to residents’ requests, complaints, and inquiries.
· Address procedural violations with residents to ensure a clear understanding of expectations and to assist resident with achieving compliance.
· Conduct orientation/assist with intake, assign beds and lockers, issue linens/personal supplies and other items to residents entering into the shelter.
· Brief and provide direction and needed assistance to volunteers and or any other staff.
· Teach good personal hygiene skills.
· Maintain appropriate boundaries with residents at all times.
· Gain a working knowledge of policies.
· Perform other duties as directed and assigned.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED required. Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology or related field Preferred.
EXPERIENCE: 2+ years’ experience working with migrant populations, child welfare, or vulnerable populations, strongly preferred.
CERTIFICATIONS:Must have National Incident Management System (NIMS) Core Curriculum Courses. IS-100.C: Introduction to the Incident Command System, ICS 100 IS-0200.c Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response, ICS 200 IS-700.B: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System IS-800.D: National Response Framework, An Introduction
ATTENDANCE: Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in the
employer’s sole discretion.
OTHER: Proficiency in Spanish/English (written and spoken language skills). Excellent interpersonal skills, including good communication skills, listening skills, and attitude. Ability to pass required medical exam and have the physical ability to fulfill essential functions. Ability to work independently and exercise a high level of confidentiality;
Eligible to receive, pass, and maintain security investigation background check – initiated by the National Background Investigations Bureau. Must be a U.S. citizen or a Lawful Permanent Resident.
