PRN & On-Call Physician – Psychiatry

The Centers is seeking a compassionate, collaborative PRN & On-Call Psychiatric Physician to expand access to high-quality behavioral health care through two flexible types of coverage. The physician may provide scheduled PRN evaluations and medication management and/or remote, home-based on-call consultation and physician-level oversight during evening, overnight, and weekend hours.

This combined opportunity is ideal for a physician who values flexibility, team-based care, and meaningful community impact. Scheduled PRN work is paid for hours worked, while on-call assignments provide flat-rate availability pay plus hourly compensation when the physician is contacted and performs clinical work. Hours and shifts are assigned according to organizational coverage needs, with no guaranteed minimum.

Position at a Glance

• Status: PRN / Part-Time and On-Call; no guaranteed minimum hours
• Schedule: Flexible scheduled PRN hours and/or 4-, 8-, or 12-hour on-call shifts, primarily evenings, overnight, and weekends
• Care setting: Scheduled PRN care may be delivered in person and/or through secure telehealth; on-call coverage is remote and home-based
• Reports to: Chief Medical Officer / Medical Director
• Department / Program: Medical Services / Psychiatry — Crisis and Clinical Services

What You’ll Do

• Provide scheduled PRN psychiatric evaluations, diagnostic assessments, medication management, and treatment planning in person and/or through secure telehealth.
• Maintain uninterrupted phone, secure messaging, and remote EHR availability throughout each assigned on-call shift and respond within the organization’s required response window.
• Provide real-time physician consultation and oversight to psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other clinical staff on diagnosis, treatment planning, medication management, and scope-of-practice needs.
• Assess reported clinical deterioration, safety concerns, and psychiatric emergencies; authorize appropriate orders or level-of-care decisions and direct emergency intervention, hospital transfer, or leadership escalation when indicated.
• Review and co-sign orders, assessments, or treatment decisions when required by regulation, protocol, or collaborative practice agreement.
• Complete timely, accurate documentation in the electronic health record.
• Coordinate with the Medical Director, Chief Medical Officer, program leadership, and the broader care team to support continuity, quality improvement, and risk management.
• Provide timely documentation and a warm handoff of significant PRN or on-call activity to the daytime medical team.

What You’ll Bring

Required

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
• Completion of an accredited psychiatry residency program.
• Current, unrestricted Ohio medical license, or the ability to obtain one before starting.
• Board certification or board eligibility in Psychiatry.
• Active DEA registration.
• Availability for scheduled PRN work and/or assigned evening, overnight, and weekend on-call shifts, with reliable phone, internet, secure messaging, and remote EHR access.
• Ability to maintain all required licensure, credentialing, and prescribing requirements.

Preferred

• Two or more years of post-residency clinical experience in psychiatry, crisis or emergency psychiatric services, or a related behavioral health setting.
• Experience providing remote or telephonic consultation, overseeing advanced practice providers, and serving community behavioral health populations, including individuals with crisis stabilization or co-occurring substance use needs.

PRN Physician — Hourly Pay

Physicians working scheduled PRN hours will be paid $125–$150 per hour for hours worked.

On-Call Physician — Availability Pay

Physicians assigned to on-call coverage are paid a flat rate for being available from home to receive and respond to calls:

• 12-hour on-call shift: $350 flat rate
• 8-hour on-call shift: $250 flat rate
• 4-hour on-call shift: $150 flat rate

In addition to the flat on-call rate, physicians who are called and perform work—including consultation, order review, or other required services—will be paid $125 per hour, with a one-hour minimum per call.
