The Medical Laboratory Scientist performs the following:
Routine and specialized laboratory tests and other procedures for use in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
• Utilizes requisite equipment, instruments, and computer systems.
• Evaluates and reports patient results using considerable independent judgment within the scope of established testing methods.
• Performs quality control procedures and contributes to the maintenance of the laboratory, equipment, and supplies.
• Assists in the development and implementation of new procedures and instrumentation.
• May assume responsibility for one or more laboratory projects or functions such as performance improvement, safety, quality control, regulatory, administrative, staff development, and computer systems.
• Trains new employees and/or students in the theoretical and operational aspects of procedures and serves as a resource for less experienced staff.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience Requirements:
Minimum of 2 Years of clinical laboratory experience in a moderate and/or high complexity testing environment. Blood Bank and Meditech Lab experience preferred.
Education Required:
Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science or medical technology required with required licensure/certification and with equivalent experience
Associate's degree in medical laboratory technology with required licensure/certification and with equivalent experience
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
ASCP or National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel Certification Required
