The Float Pool provides a unique experience for caregivers to care for diverse populations of patients in many clinics, units, departments and/or locations in Martin and St. Lucie counties while learning from many of our best caregivers. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) on the Ambulatory Float Pool team, you will assist fellow caregivers in providing exceptional, top-quality care to a diverse patient population. This role is essential in our clinics as the float pool covers for caregiver PTO, unexpected call outs, vacancies and FMLA. The ability to have a float in the clinic helps reduce the burden on the team when they would be understaffed otherwise. Here, you can make a lasting difference in the lives of patients, all while enhancing your nursing skills through hands-on experience and numerous educational resources offered within the Cleveland Clinic system.

A PRN caregiver in this position works varying days from 8:00AM – 4:30PM.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Provide professional nursing care to patients.
• Administer medication.
• Recognize changes in patients' status and report pertinent information to Charge Nurse or Physicians.
• Maintain complete and accurate documentation in medical records and files.
• Complete authorization forms and laboratory requisitions.
• Implement pain management assessments and documentation.
• Perform patient teaching as needed under the supervision of RN/Physician.
• Adhere to the National Patient Safety Goals as outlined by JCAHO.
• Follow Code Blue protocol.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Graduate of Accredited LPN program
• Florida Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross
• Knowledge of Infection Control Practices
• Experience with technology
• Computer literacy

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• One year of clinical experience

Physical Requirements:

• Essential Duties: This position requires knowledge of all aspects of patient care including assessing; planning, coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating the patient's progress through the entire continuum of car in conjunction with the R.N. or physician.
• Physical Duties: This position requires frequent walking, sitting, and standing.
• Frequent talking and listening when giving instructions and explanations.
• Frequent use of the phone; fax machines, and occasional use of the computer.
• Work is heavy, with constant lifting and moving patients, carrying equipment, supplies, and material up to 50 pounds without help and over 50 pounds with the help of mechanical devices or other personnel.
• You will be stooping, pushing, and pulling when moving a patient into position for treatment; also you will be reaching, handling, feeling, and manipulation of equipment into position.
• Working Conditions: The majority of the time employee spends indoors in air-conditioned areas.
• The potential for exposure to blood and blood-borne pathogens is significant.
• Clinical exposure to patients requires the use of personal protective equipment.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• This position is high exposure to infectious wastes such as blood and bodily fluids that mandate the wearing of gloves, masks, gowns, and goggles as appropriate.
• Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures
