The Cifarelli laboratory will offer a summer research experience to one high school student (paid position). The student will work closely with Dr. Cifarelli and her team to learn fundamentals of cell culturing (media preparation, cell growth, etc.), cell function (permeability) and signaling pathway. The student will also work on computational modeling through twice-weekly zoom meetings with Dr. Finley and her graduate trainee. The student will use the experimental data from their time working with Dr. Cifarelli to help develop the data-driven PSLR model. This modeling approach can be understood and implemented by high school students and will help the student see a biologically relevant application of linear regression that they learn in algebra.
