Job Description

We are seeking a client focused Private Client Solicitor to join our client's reputable team in Aldgate. The successful candidate will manage a varied caseload of private client matters, providing high-quality legal advice, proactive case management and excellent client care within a collaborative firm that values technical competence, continuous professional development and high standards.

This role will involve handling wills, probate administrations, lasting powers of attorney, trusts, estate administration and related post‑grant matters, together with client-facing work including client interviews, drafting correspondence and liaising with third parties such as banks, trustees and HMRC. The post offers opportunities for professional development, client relationship building and contributing to process and service improvements. Hybrid working is available after successful completion of the probationary period.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage a mixed-complexity caseload of private client matters from initial instruction through to completion, ensuring timely progression, accurate documentation and excellent client service.

  • Provide legal advice and draft wills, codicils, trust documentation, client care letters, probate applications and related paperwork; prepare schedules of assets and liabilities and clear, client-focused correspondence.

  • Lead probate and estate administration matters including obtaining grants of probate, preparing and lodging inheritance tax (IHT) forms, corresponding with HMRC and arranging distributions in accordance with client instructions and legal obligations.

  • Advise on and manage lasting powers of attorney (LPA) matters, including preparation of LPA forms, advising clients on registration and liaising with the Office of the Public Guardian as required.

  • Provide technical guidance on trust administration and assist with trust documentation, tax considerations and ongoing trustee duties where appropriate.

  • Undertake client care and AML checks, verify identity and source of funds, maintain audit-ready file records and ensure compliance with firm and regulatory procedures.

  • Liaise with clients, executors, beneficiaries, financial institutions, professional trustees and other advisers; manage diaries, arrange meetings and where required take accurate minutes and prepare meeting notes.

  • Support fee-earning and billing processes: prepare fee estimates, record time accurately, assist with invoicing and undertake appropriate debt recovery in line with firm procedures.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement by developing and maintaining precedents, checklists and workflows; identify opportunities to streamline processes and enhance the client experience.

  • Provide supervision, mentoring and technical support to more junior colleagues and paralegals; participate in training and knowledge-sharing activities to foster a supportive team environment.

Key skills and experience required:

  • Qualified solicitor with substantive private client experience, with minimum 3 years PQE in wills, probate, LPAs and trusts (candidates with equivalent experience will be considered).

  • Knowledge of probate procedures, IHT forms and requirements, LPA processes and trust administration; accuracy in preparing and reviewing legal documentation and giving clear, practical advice.

  • Excellent client care and communication skills with the ability to manage expectations, handle sensitive matters and maintain professional relationships with clients and third parties.

  • Practical experience of AML procedures, ID verification and maintaining compliant, audit-ready files; a meticulous approach to record-keeping and risk management.

  • Organised and able to manage competing priorities and a busy caseload; strong attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines independently.

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team, support colleagues and contribute positively to firm culture.

  • Proficiency with case management systems and standard office IT applications; willingness to adopt and help embed digital workflows and precedents.

  • Commitment to CPD and professional development within private client practice and to providing commercial, client-focused legal services.
