Private Assets Index Research & Development – Research Lead

Location: Monterrey or Mexico City

As part of MSCI's Global Research & Development organization, you'll join a highly collaborative team focused on transforming research into innovative products across Private Equity, Private Credit, and Real Assets You'll work with cutting-edge datasets, develop new methodologies, influence product strategy, and collaborate with experts across research, product, and commercial teams to drive innovation in one of the fastest-growing segments of the investment industry.

Your Key Responsibilities

What You'll Do

  • Lead the design and evolution of innovative methodologies, classification frameworks, and analytical tools for MSCI's private asset solutions.
  • Own projects from concept to implementation, including methodology design, validation, documentation, and governance approval.
  • Transform complex research and data into practical insights that help clients better understand and navigate private markets.
  • Collaborate closely with Product and Commercial teams to develop solutions that address evolving client needs and market trends.
  • Present research, methodology enhancements, and product innovations to senior leadership, governance committees, and institutional investors.
  • Partner directly with clients to understand their investment challenges and help shape future product development.
  • Contribute to MSCI's thought leadership through research publications, market insights, and client-facing content.
  • Mentor junior researchers and help foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and analytical excellence.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is naturally curious, intellectually driven, and excited by the opportunity to solve complex investment challenges. The ideal candidate combines strong analytical skills with an entrepreneurial mindset and enjoys turning ideas into impactful solutions.

What You'll Bring

  • 5+ years of experience in research, investment strategy, product development, or a similar role within asset management or financial services.
  • A proven ability to lead projects from idea to execution, making thoughtful decisions and driving results with minimal direction.
  • Experience improving processes, methodologies, or analytical tools—not just maintaining existing ones.
  • Strong collaboration skills, with a track record of building relationships across teams and contributing to broader business initiatives.
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capability to simplify complex concepts into practical, actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with confidence engaging senior leaders, cross-functional partners, and institutional clients.
  • Hands-on experience using Python or R to analyze data, develop prototypes, and solve analytical problems.
  • A solid understanding of financial markets, investment data, and industry best practices.

Nice to Have

  • An advanced degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Experience working with Private Equity, Private Credit, Infrastructure, Real Estate, or other Private Assets
  • Familiarity with index methodologies, investment benchmarks, or governance committee processes.
