Role purpose

The key purpose of the Privacy Specialist is to enable good business practices through effective design, implementation, and ongoing management of Vicinity’s privacy framework. This includes ensuring compliance with relevant privacy laws and regulations (such as the Privacy Act 1988 and any applicable international laws), embedding privacy by design principles into organisational practices, and fostering a culture of data protection and ethical handling of personal information.

Key Accountabilities


Regulatory

  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes and assess impact on business practices.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with applicable privacy laws and regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as the secondary contact point for regulatory authorities on privacy matters.


Privacy Program

  • Implement and maintain a Privacy Management Program and associated policies.
  • Act as a key advisor on privacy matters for business units, projects, and technology initiatives.
  • Conduct Privacy Impact Assessments and provide recommendations on risk mitigation.
  • Respond to data subject access requests, complaints, and potential data breaches.


Reporting

  • Report regularly to senior management on privacy risks, incidents, and strategic issues.

Experience & Capabilities


ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE (what you have done)

  • 3+ years of privacy management experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct privacy impact assessments.
  • Experience advising on privacy considerations in technology, digital, and customer focused projects.

CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE (what you need to know)

  • Strong working knowledge of Australian privacy legislation.


CAPABILITIES (what you can do)

  • Ability to develop strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders with excellent business partnering skills and the ability to work confidently with regulators.
  • Strong ability to adapt working style to achieve department objectives, and the skills to think outside the box to develop solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of being adapted to suit a range of audiences.
  • Strong attention to detail.
