About the Opportunity
The City of Ventura is hiring a Print Production Specialist I/II to support the City's centralized print shop operations. This position is responsible for producing high-quality printed materials for City departments by operating printing and finishing equipment, processing print requests, and ensuring projects are completed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule. Working as part of a collaborative print shop team, this position helps deliver printed materials that support City services, public outreach, and daily operations.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in a commercial print shop, copy center, in-plant print facility, or other high-volume print production environment. This is a print production position focused on operating print production equipment and preparing files for printing, not a graphic design position.
This position is flexibly staffed and may be filled at either level depending on the qualifications of the incumbent and the staffing needs of the City.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Operate high-volume print production equipment to produce professional-quality printed and bound materials, including flyers, posters, forms, reports, and other printed materials.
Prepare and fulfill print production requests for City departments, including sensitive and confidential materials.
Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and perform minor repairs on print production printers, copiers, scanners, laminators, cutters, folders, bindery machines, and other print production equipment.
Perform laminating and other print finishing tasks with precision and attention to quality.
Collaborate with internal customers to ensure print projects meet specifications, quality standards, and production deadlines
Prepare customer-provided files for printing by making basic file adjustments to ensure successful print production.
Monitor production schedules and maintain accurate production logs, inventory levels, supplies, and chargeback records.
Ensure printed materials meet established quality standards.
Evaluate print requests and recommend appropriate printing methods, paper stocks, and finishing options to produce quality finished products
Perform routine cleaning and preventive maintenance on print production equipment to support reliable operation and minimize downtime.
Support Mail Services operations by sorting and delivering mail and processing packages, as needed.
The Ideal Candidate – Preferred Qualifications
We're seeking a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced print production environment, delivers high-quality work, and provides exceptional customer service.
The ideal candidate will:
Have experience in print production processes, color management, knowledge of paper stocks, and print finishing techniques.
Have experience operating high-volume production printers, copiers, bindery equipment, laminators, and other print production equipment.
Bring experience working in a commercial print shop, copy center, print facility, or a similar print production environment.
Have basic proficiency using Adobe Acrobat or similar software to prepare and make minor adjustments to customer-provided files for printing.
Deliver excellent customer service while responding to print production requests and meeting customer deadlines.
Communicate effectively and collaborate with internal departments to understand project specifications and production requirements.
Maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail to ensure quality finished products.
Stay organized and effectively manage multiple print production requests in a fast-paced environment.
Adapt to evolving print production equipment, software, and technologies.
Enjoy hands-on work operating print production equipment and producing high-quality printed materials.
Minimum Qualifications – Required
Digital Publishing Specialist I A combination of training, education and experience equivalent to completion of high school and some formal training or work experience related to digital publishing services, operations and equipment, graphic arts, video and audio production, and digital media are required
Digital Publishing Specialist II In addition to the requirements of a Digital Publishing Specialist I, one year of experience comparable to that of a Digital Publishing Specialist I with the City of Ventura is required.
Highly desirable:
Experience in print production operating high-speed digital presses
