Responsibilities & Skills

Lattice Semiconductor is seeking a Principal UI Engineer to join the EDA tools development team in Pune. This position is an opportunity to be part of a dynamic team with ample opportunity to contribute, learn and grow.

Accountabilities

  • Lead UI Modernization InitiativesDrive the migration of legacy UI codebases into newer, scalable platforms (e.g., Java/Swing, web‑based frameworks). Use AI‑powered code‑transformation and refactoring tools to accelerate modernization efforts.
  • Define Future‑Facing User ExperiencesEnsure Lattice EDA tools deliver intuitive, coherent, and productive user experiences across platforms—enabling engineers to design, debug, and optimize FPGA systems with ease.
  • Cross‑Functional Architectural OwnershipTranslate marketing requirements into UI architecture, UX flows, interaction models, and functional specifications. Own the design intent throughout implementation.
  • Mentorship & Technical LeadershipGuide junior UI engineers, promote best practices, and foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement in UI engineering and UX design.
  • UX and Visual Design ExcellenceElevate the aesthetic and functional quality of the Lattice EDA suite, including layouts, color systems, iconography, and design patterns that reflect contemporary standards.
  • Accessibility & Inclusive DesignChampion accessible UI development—including disability‑friendly interactions, optimized workflows for diverse user needs, keyboard‑only navigation, contrast‑optimized themes, and screen‑reader compatibility.
  • Workflow Optimization for Power UsersReimagine and streamline engineer workflows through thoughtful interaction design, responsive UI behaviors, automation‑driven assistance, and human‑centered UX optimizations.
  • User Research & Usability TestingIdentify opportunities for user studies, conduct heuristic evaluations, gather real‑world feedback, and iteratively enhance UI designs.
  • Maintain High Engineering StandardsEnsure performance, stability, scalability, and maintainability of UI architectures. Establish robust design documentation and technical guidelines.
  • Drive Process ImprovementsContribute to the Spec and Plan process and continuously improve development methodologies.

Qualifications

  • BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, HCI, or related field
  • 15+ years of experience in UI engineering for complex systems such as EDA tools, CAD applications, modeling environments, or other professional engineering software.
  • Experience modernizing large legacy UI codebases, including use of AI‑assisted refactoring, code translation models, or automation‑based transformation tools.
  • Strong UI architecture expertise across one or more modern environments (e.g., Java UI frameworks, web technologies, cross‑platform UI systems).
  • Deep understanding of UX principles, human‑computer interaction, information hierarchy, interaction models, and end‑to‑end workflow design.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python, TCL, or shell scripting.
  • Knowledge of FPGA or ASIC design workflows is a strong plus.
  • Background in performance‑sensitive UI engineering (e.g., visualization, large data models, graphical workflows) is desirable.
  • Independent problem‑solving ability, attention to detail, and proven project leadership.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across multifunctional teams.
