Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is looking to Principal/Senior Principal Engineer Electronics - Communications Integration to join our team either onsite in Palmdale or San Diego, California

The candidate should be a self-starter with familiarity working in an Integrated Product Team construct.

Roles and Responsibilities will include:

  • Lead hands on integration and test of communications equipment in a lab environment, configuring and validating advanced communications methods, and hardware for planned test scenarios
  • Develop, execute, and document lab test procedures and validation plans (including signal chaining, link budgets, interference checks, and pass/fail criteria) and capture test results and anomalies
  • Configure and operate RF and network testbeds/emulators (including channel emulators, attenuators, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and protocol/network simulators) to reproduce operational environments
  • Troubleshoot hardware/software integration issues across RF front end, digital baseband, modem stacks, and network interfaces
  • Support configuration management and lab readiness: maintain test fixtures, instrumentation calibration records, test scripts, version control for test artifacts, and produce concise technical reports for stakeholders
  • Integrate with the Integrated Communications Systems team
  • Travel up to 25% may be required

Basic Qualifications:

Level 3 Principal Engineer Electronics - Communications Integration:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 5 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline and 1 years of related engineering experience.
  • Practical RF experience covering HF and UHF systems and familiarity with Beyond Line Of Sight (BLOS) technologies (satcom, troposcatter, or similar)
  • Proficiency with test equipment: spectrum/logic/oscilloscopes, vector network analyzers, signal generators, and RF channel emulators; experience scripting automated tests (Python, MATLAB, or similar)
  • Experience in technical integration of communications, payloads or avionics electronic subsystems
  • An active U.S. Government Top Secret Security Clearance is required to apply and to start the role, with the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the Company to meet its business needs

Level 4 Senior Principal Engineer Electronics - Communications Integration

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 8 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 6 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline and 4 years of related engineering experience.
  • Practical RF experience covering HF and UHF systems and familiarity with Beyond Line Of Sight (BLOS) technologies (satcom, troposcatter, or similar)
  • Proficiency with test equipment: spectrum/logic/oscilloscopes, vector network analyzers, signal generators, and RF channel emulators; experience scripting automated tests (Python, MATLAB, or similar)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Communications Engineering, Computer Engineering, or closely related field

Primary Level Salary Range: $115,400.00 - $171,000.00Secondary Level Salary Range: $142,200.00 - $213,400.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
