As a Principal Infrastructure & Operations Engineer specializing in Mainframe Automation and GDPS, you will serve as a domain expert and technical leader driving system design, automation engineering, and operational resilience across enterprise z/OS environments. In this role, you will design and implement automated solutions using OPS/MVS, NetView/SA, and REXX scripting to eliminate manual operations, streamline system message monitoring, and enable automated incident handling via ServiceNow integrations. You will play a pivotal role in GDPS software installation, script maintenance, and Rapid Recovery / Disaster Recovery processes, partnering with technology stakeholders to advance infrastructure roadmaps, enhance system reliability, and mentor engineering teams.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, engineer, and implement automated solutions using OPS/MVS and NetView/SA rules and REXX scripts to replace manual operator commands and optimize system monitoring
  • Develop system monitoring rules and scripts to evaluate messages and system conditions, enabling proactive detection and rapid response by Operations and support teams
  • Build and maintain API integrations (such as automated ServiceNow incident ticket generation) to ensure requests and incidents are addressed within SLA timeframes
  • Lead GDPS software installation, script coding, and ongoing maintenance to support Rapid Recovery and Disaster Recovery processes across enterprise mainframe platforms
  • Work closely with business and technology stakeholders to develop infrastructure roadmaps, resolve domain dependencies, and ensure effective service integration across IaaS/PaaS components
  • Evaluate technological advancements and system performance to optimize reliability, scalability, and security while recommending investments in new solutions or retirement of legacy systems
  • Serve as a technical mentor and subject matter expert, developing innovative operational approaches, reviewing team deliverables, and participating in an on-call rotation (including weekend maintenance support)

You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.

Required Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of hands-on experience using TSO, ISPF, SDSF, and z/OS operations commands
  • 10+ years of experience providing automation solutions via OPS/MVS and NetView/SA products, including OPS/MVS REXX and NetView/SA REXX rules coding
  • 10+ years of experience with the z/OS operating system, including JES2, RACF, and base system components
  • 10+ years of experience with GDPS installation and script coding for Disaster Recovery (DR) and Rapid Recovery scenarios
  • 5+ years of experience developing API integrations for automated incident management systems (e.g., generating ServiceNow incident tickets)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Engineering or related field
  • Experience designing, engineering, and managing enterprise infrastructure platforms across IaaS and PaaS models
  • Demonstrated track record of leading and mentoring technical teams, conducting peer code reviews, and serving as an enterprise domain expert
  • Experience evaluating cross-system dependencies, performance metrics, and security requirements to optimize complex technology portfolios
