Job Description

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Herefordshire to assist with the appointment of a Principal Transport Planner, on a Permanent contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay £46,142.00 - £50,269 per annum

The Principal Transport Planner will play a leading role in shaping and delivering Herefordshire's transport vision, developing strategic transport policies, securing funding opportunities, and driving sustainable connectivity improvements across the county. The role requires strong leadership, stakeholder engagement, and strategic planning expertise to support transport networks that benefit residents, businesses, and communities.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and delivery of strategic transport policies, plans, and programmes.
  • Support the implementation and ongoing development of the Local Transport Plan and wider transport strategies.
  • Develop local and regional rail, bus, active travel, and sustainable transport policies.
  • Identify, secure, and manage transport funding opportunities from government and external sources.
  • Commission, procure, and oversee transport-related projects and studies.
  • Build effective relationships with internal departments, government bodies, transport operators, and external stakeholders.

Qualification:

  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent professional experience, ideally in Transport Planning, Planning, Geography, Engineering, or a related discipline.

Essentials

  • Sound understanding of current transport policy, legislation, and sustainable transport initiatives.
  • Experience developing transport strategies, policies, and programmes.
  • Knowledge of transportation planning methodologies and statutory requirements.
  • Experience managing projects and delivering outcomes within agreed timescales.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and partnership working skills.
