Job Description

At Zimmer Biomet, we believe in pushing the boundaries of innovation and driving our mission forward. As a global medical technology leader for nearly 100 years, a patient’s mobility is enhanced by a Zimmer Biomet product or technology every 8 seconds.

As a Zimmer Biomet team member, you will share in our commitment to providing mobility and renewed life to people around the world. To support our talent team, we focus on development opportunities, robust employee resource groups (ERGs), a flexible working environment, location specific competitive total rewards, wellness incentives and a culture of recognition and performance awards. We are committed to creating an environment where every team member feels included, respected, empowered and recognised.

What You Can Expect

As a Principal Test Engineer - AI you would be a senior member of the Software Applications Development Team responsible for defining the quality strategy, validation approach, and test architecture for Zimmer Biomet’s mymobility product, including its AI-enabled software capabilities and intelligent features. This job provides technical leadership for testing intelligent software, data-driven workflows, and integrated platform components to help ensure the product is reliable, secure, and fit for global deployment.

You would be expected to bring strong technical judgment, a risk-based mindset, and deep software quality experience to evolving areas of AI-enabled product development. This role also helps shape automation strategy, mentors other test engineers, and influences engineering practices to improve testability, observability, and overall product quality across the software development lifecycle

How You'll Create Impact

  • Lead and evolve the test strategy for the mymobility product, with particular focus on AI-enabled features, integrated workflows, and other high-risk product areas.
  • Define practical, risk-based validation approaches for AI-related functionality, including model-driven or data-driven features, supporting services, and end-to-end workflows.
  • Partner with software engineering, data science, product, quality, and other cross-functional teams to improve test coverage, investigate defects, and support high-quality global releases.
  • Drive the continued development of automation, regression, integration, and data validation practices that support efficient and scalable quality engineering.
  • Contribute to validation documentation, defect analysis, metrics, and release readiness activities in support of product quality, compliance expectations, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to other engineers while helping strengthen quality practices across the broader development organisation.
  • Stay current with emerging approaches, tools, and industry practices relevant to AI/ML quality engineering, and drive adoption of appropriate methods where they improve effectiveness or assurance.

What Makes You Stand Out

  • Significant experience defining and leading test strategies for complex software systems, with strong depth in software quality engineering, automation, and system integration testing.
  • Experience testing AI/ML-enabled products, data-driven systems, or advanced analytics platforms in production-like or regulated environments, with a strong understanding of AI quality considerations such as model performance validation, bias and fairness assessment, explainability, robustness, data quality, and monitoring.
  • Strong experience validating data pipelines, APIs, backend services, and end-to-end workflows across distributed or cloud-based architectures, with the ability to investigate and troubleshoot complex defects through analysis of logs, datasets, model outputs, APIs, and overall platform behaviour.
  • Technical background in automation and test tooling, such as Python, Playwright, Cucumber, BDD or similar frameworks, along with strong SQL and data validation skills.
  • Experience creating and overseeing high-quality test documentation, including test strategies, test plans, test cases, validation summaries, defect reporting, and execution metrics, with the ability to communicate technical findings, risks, and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to influence technical direction across engineering and product teams and advocate effectively for quality, testability, and risk-based decision-making.
  • Strong analytical, planning, and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, lead complex test efforts with minimal supervision, and embed quality practices within Agile development environments.

Your Background

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline required.
  • Significant experience in Software Quality Assurance, Software Testing, or Quality Engineering.
  • A background leading complex test programmes, test strategy, or quality engineering initiatives.
  • Experience in healthcare software, digital health, regulated software environments, or other highly controlled industries preferred.
