Technical Program Managers (TPMs) leverage their engineering expertise to lead the end-to-end delivery of multi-disciplinary projects from start to finish — working with stakeholders to plan requirements, manage project schedules, identify risks, and communicate clearly with cross-functional partners across the company. They typically apply their background in software engineering and technology to provide cross-functional leadership to build alignment. Your projects may span offices, companies and time zones. You will be reporting to senior stakeholders the status of the project and help them understand the potential risks that may impact delivery.You will be part of the Innovation Office, a product factory inside the health system of the University of Utah.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Orchestrate execution across multiple stakeholders: engineering, product, and partner teams, proactively managing dependencies, risks, and tradeoffs in highly matrixed environments.
  • Establish solid operational rigor through clear review cadences, executive-level communication, and cross-team alignment to maintain velocity and quality at scale.
  • Oversee execution of the digital roadmap in an agile environment, ensuring alignment of initiatives in support of the broader strategy. Maintain program documentation and monitor scope, schedule, risks, issues, and budget. Regularly report performance to senior leadership.
  • Ensure good agile principles and frameworks, such as Scrum or Kanban. Help teams understand and implement agile practices effectively.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in agile methodologies and bring in new ideas to enhance the team’s performance.
  • Facilitate retrospectives and other feedback loops to identify improvement opportunities and guide teams in implementing actionable changes.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to foster collaboration.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading complex digital projects from concept to implementation.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills with the ability to inspire and influence others.
  • Demonstrated experience to present to senior stakeholders including C-level executives.
  • Innovative mindset with a keen eye for identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and simultaneously handle multiple projects.
  • Experience working with project and change management techniques, including Agile frameworks, Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), etc.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Ten years of experience managing cross-functional or cross-team projects.
  • 5 years of experience as a technical program manager.
  • Experience with software development and managing execution of programs that span multiple engineering teams.

Qualifications (Preferred)

Preferred

  • Experience working in complex academic medical center environments.
  • Experience with lifecycle management in a fast-paced software environment.
  • Experience working with ServiceNow or JIRA
  • Experience in large scale data platforms.
