Base salary will be in the range of $106,709.01 - $116,198.52, plus market loading (where applicable), and 17% superannuation (HEW Level 7).

As a Principal Electronics Engineer, locally known as a Principal Technical Officer (Electronics Engineer) at the Queensland Brain Institute, your engineering expertise won't be used to refine commercial products or meet production deadlines. Instead, you'll work alongside internationally recognised neuroscientists to design and build the bespoke electronic systems that makes brain research possible.
This is a highly collaborative role where your expertise will directly influence the success of research programs with global impact.
Key responsibilities will include:
Designing, developing and manufacturing advanced electronic equipment, PCBs, prototypes and bespoke research systems.
Partnering closely with researchers and technical staff to deliver end-to-end “design and build” solutions for complex experimental requirements.
Conducting simulations, feasibility studies and cost analyses to support innovative and efficient engineering outcomes.
Providing expert fault finding, diagnostics and repair services while ensuring the ongoing performance and safety of laboratory systems.
You are an experienced electronics engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems and developing innovative solutions. You thrive in collaborative environments, enjoy working across a diverse range of projects and are motivated by seeing your engineering expertise contribute to meaningful outcomes.
You will bring:
A degree in Electronics Engineering or a related discipline, with significant relevant experience.
Demonstrated expertise in electronic design, PCB development, firmware integration and prototyping.
Strong hands-on skills, including mechanical assembly, hand soldering and surface mount soldering.
Proven capability in troubleshooting, fault finding and maintaining complex electronic and laboratory equipment.
Experience delivering customer-focused technical support in a research or high-performance environment.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including experience with simulations, costings and feasibility assessments.
Knowledge of safe operating procedures, risk assessments and compliance within laboratory or workshop settings.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
